life
Rhine was born to Madison Fitzgerald, an english professor at Washington State. Her father had left the family early on, before Rhine was even born, though it was a mutual decision among the parents. Madison's long-time boyfriend was moving to Germany to head up a biogenetics research project. Growing up Rhine lived a rather average life although she was surrounded by books and knowledge due to her mother's profession. Rhine was well-advanced for an infant learning to speak by the age of five months, broken sentences at eight, and walking at eight months old. It would seem that young Rhine was going to inherit her mother and father's intelligence. Sadly, her twin brother Rhett seemed to be the genuis of the family. Rhine had above average intelligence but nothing like her twin brother.
The two have always been close, though equally as competitive, all their lives. When the two entered school Rhett excelled at maths and sciences while Rhine took after their mother and excelled in the arts and english. This pattern continued as they grew. By the time they got to middle school they had both found things they enjoyed; Rhett became obsessed with piano and psychology and Rhine had gotten involved in local vocalist groups and writing. They both emmersed themselves in their works and it was a blindside to both of them what happened shortly after their twelfth birthday. One afternoon while their mother was driving home there was an accident. Their mother was in a coma for three weeks, with the doctors remaining positive she would wake up and be functional again. At 3:42 AM on December 21st, Madison Fitzgerald went into a seizure and was pronounced brain-dead. Rhett became an emotional mess which left Rhine to make the decision to stop the artificial life her mother had been living. Rhine sat with her mother as she was disconnected from the machines and passed away. Rhett became a wreck and Rhine did her best to handle her mother's affairs and take care of her twin brother at the same time.
It was a long, harrowing process but Rhine eventually got through the funeral and the burial and the finishing of all of her mother's last wishes. The Fitzgerald twins were left the house, the money, everything. No contact was able to be made with the twins' father and since their mother was an only child it left them few options. Their maternal grandmother stepped in and told them they would sell their Seattle, Washington home within the year and the twins would move cross-country to South Carolina to live with her at her several-generation plantion home. The following year the twins were uprooted and moved with their grandmother. They were completely lost being in South Carolina, but quickly enough Rhett found a few science groups to join in with. Rhine struggled the most with the weight of her past and it took her forever to even leave the grounds aside from school. She met Blake, a southern farm hand who tended to the yard work and horses of Twin Oaks. The two began to hang out more and more and it seemed Rhine finally found a safe place amidst the madness. But Rhine was foolish to trust him, so foolish. He asked her to come help him with one of the horses in the back stables to which she agreed, the horses in the back being her favorites because of their still-wild instincts. It was then that Rhine was forced to the ground, her mouth covered, while Blake raped her. For the next year she went into seculusion inside herself. She refused to talk to hardly anyone, gave up singing, and rarely left the plantation's library. She lost herself in studying literature and writing. No one ever found out about what Blake did to her. But for Rhine the nightmares seemed to never stop. The summer before her fifteenth birthday she was raped again by Blake.
Rhine decided she had enough. She went to the courts and fought her grandmother for emancipation and access to her mother's money and the Seattle property. She hired movers and left that summer, never bothering to look back. Though legally emancipated Rhine and Rhett continued to go to school, though Rhine didn't enjoy it as she had before. That fall she was practicing a song in the school's band room when one of drama students wandered in. As soon as Rhine locked eyes with the boy she knew they were going to be friends. Slowly but surely Corren cracked through Rhine's icy exterior. He found out what happened and did his best to help her. He got her back into the glee club and writing and being a happy, optimistic person again.
The two got through their high school years and both graduated first and second of their year, with Rhett as Valedictorian. Rhett decided he wanted to go to the University of Maryland for their biology and mathematics program, despite almost begging letters from Brown and Harvard for him to attend. Rhine followed her twin, enrolling as a music and english double major at the local college in the town of Portland where they settled. Corren, of course, got in as well and came with them. Rhine was a little out of place in Los Angeles though Corren seemed totally at home among the fashion industry and even her brother had found a nerd-clan to toy around with. Rhine, being her optimistic outgoing self, quickly made a few friends she spent time with.
After being in Maryland for two years Rhine met Brett and fell for him. The two became inseperable all that year, and Rhine was certain it was true love! Well, that was until she found him with his pants down, literally. She was heartbroken and after a massive argument the two broke up. Rhine spent the night in Corr's dorm room, knowing her gay best friend would help her. The two got wasted in an attempt to lift the mood and ended up sleeping together. It was meant to be a one night stand, never to happen again. Although Rhine had no clue Corr had begun to fall for her after that one night, a feeling he'd denied since they met, considering he was gay. But he wouldn't tell her, no way. Two months later Rhine came to Corr and told him she had been feeling sick. And that her first impulse had been to take a pregnancy test and...she was pregnant with his child. The two were hysterical, confused as to what to do. Rhine decided she would keep the baby. And they conspired for two months before they told Brett, convincing him it was his child. Though Brett has accepted responsibility he refuses to have anything to do with Rhine. She has had a few songs used and has been getting a steady income but she secretly fears for the wellfare of her child (or children if her parent's genes act as they might).
