life
blythe on being a nystrom, "it's swedish, if you couldn't tell. strom and son ending names are a good indicator that someone is swedish, for future reference. my dad is purely swedish while my mom is english-swedish, making me a very european product. the only reason i have an accent? my mom and dad have made a point to speak swedish in the household as much as they do english. it goes along with upholding the traditions of our origins, or something along those lines. we aren't just some silly foreign family who came over to america because it is "the land of hope and freedom." the nystrom family is a branch off of the royal family of sweden, making me loosely related to the royal family. this doesn't actually change much, but it is something i like to boast about. it also leaves us a little more wealthy and gives us better connections. i'm no princess, but i can act like i am."
blythe on fashion, "it's one of the ways you are able to express yourself. while it doesn't need to be taken as seriously as politics it can get pretty heavy. with what you choose to wear you are saying something about yourself. sometimes you don't realize that you're giving off a certain message that changes the way people think about you. if you go around wearing things with holes in them or jeans from wal-mart people are going to think less of you. name brands are another way to brag and those who are slightly fashionable understand that. think of me as shallow or vain but i am proud of how i present myself. you will never see me in a pair of sweats with messy hair walking down the street. i'm cultured and care about how people perceive me. that, and what i choose to wear says more about me than anything i could ever say."
blythe on love, "it's something at this point that i have yet to discover. my self worth has always been put into the equation and i have never given myself up for flings or one night stands. while i can appreciate men and their bodies, i don't want to lower myself to the level of a floosie. relationships take up far too much energy and time, both of which i don't have much of to spare anymore. i'm busy with school and family issues. i may flirt but it's all shameless and i don't pursue men unless i know that they are worth my time. it irks me when a random stranger believes that they have the right to come up to me and ask me on a date. i'm a stranger, not a friend who has captured your interests. at least be enough of a man to get to know me first before deciding that i could be your type. a nice face and attractive body are surprisingly not enough to fuel a meaningful relationship. no one in this world today seems to get that."
blythe on life, "you need to be right kind of person to be successful in life. those who are weak at heart or unsure of themselves and their abilities are never going to meet anything but defeat. if you're heart is too soft and you care too much you'll also find that those with bigger dreams and more ambition are going to walk all over you. then there are those who are nothing but trash and will never go anywhere because they lack class and grace. life is a game that needs to be carefully played, one that you will lose at if you don't have the right attributes or the correct goals kept in mind. you're going to get called heartless, a bitch, and many other things, but the opinions of those beneath you don't matter in the end. when you're standing at the top, looking down at all of the people who criticized you, you can laugh at them and enjoy in your accomplishments."
