Caleb Hayes was born into a rather well off family at the brink of summer. He was the second Hayes child, having one older brother already and later, a younger sister. His brother was only two years older and he always looked up to him throughout his childhood. Whatever Thomas did, Caleb wanted to do and that stuck with him into his teenage years. He began to play sports at a very young age as his brother was very athletic. He fell in love with soccer when he was barely five years old and has stuck with it to this day. He was always quite well liked in school and he always kept a good attitude about him. When he entered his teen years, he noticed that many of his friends were always commenting on girls and their bodies. He went along with it but deep down, he was never really interested. He threw himself into his school work and gave it all on the field instead, always using this as an excuse to remain single. He knew about his sexuality but he wasn't willing to admit to anyone, not even himself.

During the summer between his freshman and sophomore year, Caleb met someone who helped him to change that at a soccer camp he was attending. It was merely a summer fling full of innocent touches and kisses but it brought Caleb to a feeling of self acceptance. The fling ended, as they all do when both boys had to return home to their respective towns. Caleb decided to tell his brother first, as he was his role model after all. The only problem was, Thomas didn't react the way he would have liked. He was upset with Caleb and told him he couldn't go telling people, it would endanger both of their reputations. Although both hurt and even more confused, he did as his brother said and kept it a secret for another year. He even managed to date a girl even though he was never really attracted to her. They even slept together a few times although Caleb knew it was wrong. He was far too entrenched in his own self denial to care about anything, he wanted to be accepted.

Summer rolled around again and he headed back off to the same camp to play soccer. The boy was there again but Caleb tried to stay away from him. He didn't manage it though and the two began where they left off, this time hooking up repeatedly. It was so different from the cold and forced touches he had shared with his girlfriend and he knew that he couldn't keep it up any longer. When he returned home again, he broke up with the girl although he didn't willingly admit everything. He began his junior year with the same lies on his back but about half way through he had had enough. His brother had already moved away to college and he didn't have to worry about his opinions anymore. This time he came out to his little sister who was in her freshman year at that time. She was much more accepting and even helped him come out to his parents. They had some trouble with it at first but soon they realized he was still the same person. Word eventually spread throughout the school but Caleb was too relieved to care. Some people treated him differently but his true friends stood by him. He's now about to start his senior year of high school secret free and he couldn't be happier.
