ceridwen was too pale to be out in the deathly heat of ocean city in the summer time. most of the time she was better off holed up inside, surfing the web or doing whatever she could without having to be outside. being inside didn't mean that she was at home, however. ceri tried to avoid being home as much as possible, seeing the faces of her siblings and her dad absolutely sickened her. she was still bitter over the whole affair scandal from three years, and with that was mixed all of the hatred that she had harbored over her seventeen years of living. managing to go throughout the day without seeing the face of another prynne made her day more bearable and put her into a tolerable mood. no one had been interested in keeping her company over the weekend, because it was the fourth of july and they had better things to do. because of this ceri was deflated, settling on staying at home, practically locking herself in her room. that was, until she had gotten word of the beach bash that was going to be held on the beach. it would be outside, but it was also something that would keep her from having to be confined to the house. begrudgingly, she went to her wardrobe to try and uncover one of her many bikinis that had never been used.
because all that ceridwen could have was bad luck, terrwyn, her older sister, had to have been wandering by her ajar door. she had just put on her bikini and her sister had some sort of radar that told her that ceridwen was doing something unusual. invasive as always, she poked her head into the door and stepped in when she saw the bright white bikini that her sister was sporting. "oh my god, you actually look cute!" she had screeched, uncaring of the backhanded compliment that she had just served. ceridwen had looked at her, a searing glare on her face, and did nothing but point to the door. she would have slapped terr across the face if she hadn't been so focused on now trying to hunt down the spf 60 sunblock that she had purchased some time ago. just in case, she had thought. her thinking had been foreshadowing a situation like this. mentally, she patted herself on the pack and pulled on her shorts, still looking around for the sunblock. she was fully dressed and still could not find the sunblock. ceri groaned, wanting to get out of the house, not try to locate sunblock. the search was ultimately abandoned, with her figuring that she could find someone who would let her borrow their sunblock.
the beach bash was crazy, just as ceridwen had anticipated it would be. she squinted, cursing that she had been in a rush for no reason and had managed to forget sunglasses. her bare feet were scalding on the hot sand, but ceri kept thinking that it was still better than being at home. there were clumps of people that she could recognize, but no one who she actually cared to socialize with. foremost, what she needed was a friendly face who would be offering to give her some sunblock. her path was not set, she wandered aimlessly among the people, wishing that the dubstep music wouldn't have been played so loud. maybe she would dance later, if she could get past the fact that the music was utterly horrible. eyes still squinted, she finally decided that she would ask someone random. the sun was beating down brutally on her, probably already starting to burn her delicate skin. she stopped abruptly, by a towel with a small group of people near it. her glance ran across over them and she locked eyes with someone random, managing a friendly enough smile. "hey," she said, sounding as if they they were casual friends. "do you have any sunblock that i could use?"
