life
nick grew up in ocean city, maryland his whole life, being raised here ever since he was a little boy. he had been a kind boy, always giving, always being praised as a nice, little boy who always listened and always stayed out of trouble. he was mostly introverted, though he didn’t mind making conversation with anyone, and he certainly wasn’t anti-social, he just found himself thinking about what to say more than actually saying it. he was mostly a listener, he was compassionate and understanding, though he hardly found the need to speak much. nick was a strong believer in saving your words for something important. he hoped that though he didn’t say much, the little words he was able to express would resonate deeper than any thousand words any other person would speak.
he had discovered his love for music at a young age, receiving his first guitar at the age of ten. though nick was clearly talented and seemed to effortlessly learn how to play, as well as even composing his own songs on the guitar, it was clear that in fifth grade, he didn’t have the emotional depth it required to write lyrics. though it had started out as just for fun, he never quite imagined making it big as a rockstar, he found music as a way of escape, of expressing his feelings in a way that was easy for him. but nick wouldn’t realize how much his guitar, and his music would make an impact on him a few years later.
his family was a nice traditional family, a strong father, a loving mother, a caring brother, and a darling little sister. that was how it was supposed to be anyway, until two years before, in nick’s sophomore year of high school, when he was sixteen, his baby sister – who was only eight years old was taken away from him, because of an inexperienced teenage driver who had not quite looked twice when crossing the intersection and slamming into a small girl on a bike. their family dynamics had never quite been the same after the accident, their family, who had once eaten dinner together and laughed and joked every night, had begun to drift apart due to grief. nick, who had loved his younger sister more than anyone in the world had begun to lose sight of happiness, and had begun to fall into a depression, midway between his sophomore year.
he owed his survival to music – music saved him at his darkest moment, when he never thought he could be happy without seeing his sister’s smile again, he was able to articulate his emotions through his music. he became more serious about guitar, and nick began to fall back into life again. though he had reached points of depression, his suffering was kept mostly secret and inside the home. though his close friends had known about his family’s loss and had reached out to him, nick had spent time with his music to heal.
at age eighteen, nick sometimes still found himself thinking about his beautiful little sister, olivia, and her smile. though every year he found herself at her grave visiting her, he was healing, and he tried to bring his family back together. meeting nick right now would give you the impression that he was just a shy boy that didn’t really like to talk much, but there was much more to him than that. here was a boy that though was quiet, had analyzed your movements and thought a million things about you that he hadn’t spoken yet. this was a boy that was a good friend and a good listener, that he would seem selfless to not talk about himself, though in reality, he refused to talk about his life, or his repairing family, or his past.
but it had been two years after all, and nick became shaped by this loss, to a sweet, caring, down-to-earth, sensible boy who though wasn’t exactly the boy who would boast about his achievements on the football field, would make sure that you were feeling well and happy. though he didn’t talk about his life much, you would be sure he would be willing to talk about yours.
