life
Brennan Hudson is accustomed to being one of the popular kids. His family has always been part of the upper class; his father is a surgeon and his mother is a lawyer. His parents spend most of their time at their jobs, which meant Brennan and his siblings were basically raised by a nanny, who still takes care of the younger children even though Brennan is old enough to babysit now. He's too busy with his social life to spend time with his siblings, however. He spends all of his time with his friends, either going to parties or hosting them himself. He spends the other half of his life playing soccer, the sport he's been dedicated to ever since he was a child.
Brennan's mother and father had a string of disputes during Brennan's childhood. He could sometimes hear them arguing at night, which is how he found out that his father was having an affair. Even though Brennan was only in elementary school at the time, he understood the gravity of the situation. He had seen similar situations on television and in movies, and he expected the worst. To his surprise, nothing happened. The issue eventually blew over, and the fights eventually stopped altogether. No divorce. His dad got away with it. This confused young Brennan; he didn't think it was supposed to work out that way. Now that he is older, Brennan still sometimes suspects his father of cheating. There are small signs. His dad is always out late, always too busy to spend time with his wife, always making sure to delete his text messages whenever another family uses his phone. Brennan would never say anything out loud about the matter, of course.
As it is often said, the apple never falls far from the tree. Brennan has a reputation at Manchester Preparatory for being quite the promiscuous fellow, always hooking up with new girls, always charming them until he gets what he wants. It's something he's not ashamed of. He enjoys being a ladies' man. That being said, it would be very difficult for a girl to tie him down. He's never been in a real relationship; every encounter has always been a one night stand for Brennan. He doesn't really believe in love, after all that he's been shown of it.

Jax could find his way to her apartment with his eyes closed. He had visited the small living space so many times that he had memorized its exact location by now. In fact, he was such a frequent visitor that he even had his own key to the place. It hung on the keychain he carried around everywhere, the only gold key on a chain full of silver.
He could remember when Chase had given it to him. It had been during one of their frequent lazy days. They had been seated on the couch together, side by side, sharing a blanket. They had been watching a movie. Jax couldn’t remember the name of the film for the life of him. However, what he did remember exactly was the moment when out of nowhere she had taken his hand in hers and placed a key into his palm. “What’s this?” he remembered asking, his brow furrowing in confusion. She had told him to just keep it. It didn’t take him long to figure out what it was meant to unlock.
It danced between his fingers now, shining every so often in the dull moonlight.
Truth be told, having a key to her place in his possession made him feel better. It was comforting to know that nothing could keep him from her if something were to go wrong one day. Not that anything had ever really gone wrong ever since she had moved to the apartment. Jax just worried too much. It also was a constant reassurance that his best friend really did trust him completely. It felt good. To be deemed trustworthy. It wasn’t a characteristic that most people considered him to have. In fact, when thinking of Jaxton Landon's personality, the word 'trustworthy' is perhaps the last thing that would pop into any of his peers' minds. But Chase trusted him. Sometimes he wondered why.
Jax had parked his car in the lot before making his way up some stairs in the direction of Chase’s apartment. Her complex was certainly not far from his home at all, and he usually enjoyed walking there. It was already getting late, though, and Jax was even feeling a bit tired. It had been easier to drive, and he had gotten to his destination sooner.
The sky was already darkening, and the moon was faint. He glanced around as he approached Chase’s door. He came to a stop and quickly averted his eyes to his keys, locating the gold one in a matter of seconds. He fit the key into the lock, slowly opening the door as he did so. In one swift movement, his slender fingers pushed the door open and closed it quietly behind him. He took a few steps forward, fumbling to put his keys back into his pocket as he did so. Sometimes he still felt strange just entering her home without knocking or ringing a doorbell, but Chase always told him not to worry about it. He just felt weird. He wouldn’t want to walk in on her naked or something. He blinked, and, pushing that thought out of his mind as quickly as it had appeared, he continued to step forward into the apartment.
“Chasen?” he called into the hall, searching for her, using her full name because he adored it. She allowed him to call her by it, but he knew it was only because he was special. She wouldn’t want others using it. He liked it that way, though. His very own name for her that no one else got to use. It was a privilege he liked more than he would ever let on.
