miniature mistakes,
matt needed an excuse. the entire world was bent on making his life miserable. everything he did was wrong. at first there was that night; the one that changed everything. and then suddenly his best friend was back and it was nothing. matt couldn't bring himself to do that to oliver. it was his own fault. he just couldn't seem to stop thinking. the only thing he hadn't screwed up yet was his weird friendship with barbie but that was just a matter of time. he couldn't keep anything that meant something. it was all a wicked roller-coaster that once seemed enjoyable and now all it did was make him unbearably dizzy. he was just waiting for that moment when the world would find out about that one mistake he couldn't quite bring himself to regret and he would lose it all. he stopped speaking to his family and izzy wouldn't speak to him. his overprotective ways had pushed her away along with his decision to move out of the house. oliver was doing what matt had been doing most of freshman year. charlie. and she was the same evil beautiful woman she'd been back then. both of them were traitors in his mind. but now so was he. he didn't have a right to be mad but he was. his blood boiled underneath his laughter after every stupid comment they made about their trip. they were just as selfish as he was now and he hated them for it.
matt needed an excuse. he hadn't talked to lo in person in more than a week. they argued over the internet and he had been standing outside her house one night; her sobs audible in the still darkness. he couldn't believe he had resorted to borderline stalking his best friend's girlfriend. but he knew that if he asked her her to see him her response would be less than pleasant. and if by some chance she agreed to see him, it would be even worse. hurting her was the only way he knew how to protect her. he had mistakenly thought that everything that had happened had been a misunderstanding. oliver loved lo, he hadn't cheated, he was back for her. oliver was the better man out of the two. he deserved the girl. the girl deserved the best. but now everything was foggy once again and doubt was eating at him. he didn't think lo would take his recent actions this hard. he had figured he was just a game to the capricious young woman. but her tears and reactions were telling him otherwise. he couldn't stand it. he had to see her.
matt's excuse was that he hadn't spend enough time with his best friends since they got back from france. he was crashing oliver and lo's date because he wanted to have some fun. he was bored. he needed excitement. he knew she would be mad. he was a little mad at himself. but he needed to see her. he needed to know if she was truly upset (and if she was was it because of him or was it oliver?) or if it was all in his head.
his hand reached up, ringing the doorbell in one swift movement before he got a chance to change his mind about the whole situation.
