life
seventeen years ago, a bouncing baby boy was born unexpectedly on a snowy evening at 8:40, weighing only three pounds. he was born two months premature. luckily, his breathing was stable, so after a few weeks of keeping a close eye on him, he gained a pound and his parents were able to take him home. every so often they brought him back to the hospital for check-ups to be sure he was doing okay. each time they were thankful for positive results as their second little boy grew ounce by ounce, pound by pound, and inch by inch. Soon, he was a healthy child as plump and round as ever.
when he started kindergarten, he already knew his abc's and 123's. even from the beginning he was a step ahead. what else would someone expect out of the offspring of a psychologist and a lawyer? his older brother ethan wasn't exactly the same. unlike drew, he didn't give anything his all or use his full potential. in other words, he did just enough to pass. occasionally, he teased his younger brother in order to boost his self-confidence and hide his jealousy. however, drew was also the more mature one and took no notice to his juvenile behavior.
two years after drew was born, his baby sister kelsey arrived. she was a giggly baby and right away, drew took responsibility to protect her. as they grew older, he did his absolute best to watch over her and he even helped her with her school work when she was having troubles. the two were definitely a lot closer than with ethan. not that all of the siblings didn't love each other because they did.
eventually, it came time for the young boy to start middle school. he was a talkative guy, therefore he made friends easily. a lot of things came easy to him: academics, friends, jokes, and even a few sports (although he wasn't much of a competitor so he didn't take sports too seriously). before long, most of his focus was mainly on his school work. every assignment, project, and essay was always handed in promptly on time, sometimes even turned in early. plus, although he didn't need to, he made an effort to complete any extra credit a teacher offered. he was at the top of the class by the end of every school year completed. his parents were of course proud of him, and he was loved by all of his teachers.
by his junior year, he had days where he'd be so focused on getting all of his homework done that he would completely forget about his friends and girls. yes, he still managed to squeeze in some amount of time saved for his friends and whatnot, but not much. it was the beginning of this year that his mother was offered a job in ocean city, maryland. so, the family packed up and moved out, leaving their home state of minnesota. ethan was off to college by the time, which left drew and kelsey to be transferred to manchester preparatory academy. on his first day, the sixteen-year-old could already tell it was extremely different from his old school. everyone got a label and was soon assigned to a certain clique where they supposed "belonged." drew thought it was strange, and during the first year of attendance, he was a drifter, hanging out with pretty much anyone mostly because he got along well with a lot of people and on account that he was able to make friends easily. however, by the end of the year, he slowly fell in with the nerds because of his vigorous hard work.

As soon as Drew was out for lunch, he raced to his locker, threw his books inside, and exited the front entrance of the school. He couldn't believe why he grabbed his sister's notebook. How he managed to take one of her notebooks instead of his own, he wasn't sure. But he was glad that he had a free lunch hour and lucky for him, his sister attended Harmony Heights so he could just walk over and switch it.
Drew always felt out of place walking into Harmony. It was an all girls school so a boy inside who wasn't a teacher was rare. He had only been inside a few times, but it was enough to find his way around. Except, he had no clue as to where he would be able to find his sister. He wasn't sure if she had lunch at this time, or if she was in class. The dark-haired boy entered the school, glanced every which way to try to pinpoint in which direction his sister could be. He took a guess and went right. He passed a few girls who smiled and giggled as he walked by, and turned left around the corner. There was another girl who seemed to be arranging books in her locker. He saw her glance up at him out of the corner of his eye, but he was on a mission to find his sister. The thought of asking someone never even crossed his mind.
After about fifty wrong turns, he finally spotted a familiar head through a window in a door. Drew walked up to it, and attempted to get his sister's attention; however, it didn't work. At that point, he decided to just knock and let himself in. The boy explained that he needed to speak with his sister, Kelsey, and it was important. Luckily, she let his sister leave so they could switch notebooks.
After asking his younger sister which way to go so he could leave, he followed her directions and ended up at the front door. He pushed through, and blinked a few times so his eyes could adjust to the sunlight. He wasn't really looking where he was going and suddenly found himself toppling over someone and falling into her lap. He brought a hand to his head. Wow, did he feel like an idiot. "Ow, uh, hello," he said, peering up at the brunette. He was amazed by her striking blue eyes, and found himself at a loss for words. "Um, I uh... Sorry." The young man couldn't seem to make himself move. His head was still spinning from the tumble, but he managed to sit up partially for a moment until he had to lean forward and rest his head in his hand. Hopefully he'd be able to make it back to Lacordiare in time for class.
