Joshua Charles Erikson met Isabelle Riley Hayes in his sophomore year of college. Never one to "settle down", Josh had spent all of high school playing the hump and dump game of high school, being the quarterback of the football team, and taking a bottle of Vodka with him wherever he went. So when he met Isabelle Hayes, it was fuck at first sight, as he appropriately named it. Drunk out of his mind, he was about to do the dirty business with Isabelle when she pulled away - "forever a tease", as he refers to her now with bitter judgement. Anyways, Josh remembered her, and searched for her for two weeks. The conquest would be his - he imagined. And when he finally did catch her conquest - it wasn't all up to speed. He got her pregnant, surprise, surprise. She gave birth to the baby nine months later, little Cadence Brooklyn Erikson - named after her father. She was given to his grandparents to take care of while the duo completed college. Josh claims that he only stayed with her because he couldn't leave her alone with the child, but Cady has always claimed that a small part of him really had grown to love the fierce, independent Isabelle.

The duo completed college - Josh gained a career in business and financial management, while Isabelle gained a career in the history of literature. The two lived together, in a strange relationship. They raised their love child, who was now two years old and eager to be with her parents instead of her grandparents. The three of them lived a rather normal life as the two parents got to grips with their jobs and raising a young girl. Every once in a while, Josh would take his small family to visit his younger brother's family - who he'd always thought himself better than - and Cady learned to befriend their two sons. She was about four when she first met them, and they were about six and nine years old. At first hesitant, she came to know the two boys as the brother figures she lacked. Josh wasn't particularly fond of this, but he never made any complaints, and Isabelle thought it was adorable. She would continually take Cady to see her cousins and her aunt and uncle, despite Josh's protests. This was the first tear in their relationship.

When Cady turned eight, her mother, Isabelle, decided she couldn't live with Joshua anymore. She wanted custody of the child, and after a long fight - they decided to go to court with it. For some reason - maybe it was the fact that Joshua had a more stable job than Isabelle, who was constantly moving - Joshua was given custody of the young Cady. Isabelle moved to New York, as far away from Los Angeles as she could manage - and left Joshua with the small girl. The first few months were hard for him. His small girl was always wanting to see her mother, always requesting her presence, and when she was refused, she would start screaming and crying like the world would end. Joshua would try to comfort his younger girl, but his words and actions were nothing like Isabelle's and could not soothe his small child. So, with a great reluctance, Joshua decided to move to Portland so that he could live near his brother - who could take better care of his little girl. And so Cadence moved with her father to Portland, Oregon.

Cady lived a rather normal life. She spent part of her summers in New York with her mother, to her father's reluctance, and spent a great majority of her time at home with her cousins. Joshua worked most of the time, and when he had business trips and such, Cady was reluctantly passed over to her aunt and uncle, who made her feel like the world. Despite Joshua's best tries, he was never much of a good father. He tried to win Cadence over by buying her beautiful dresses and pretty, new toys. And this satisfied Cady enough to appreciate her fathers presence in her life. But despite this, Cady always loved visiting her mother in the big city. But, the year that Cady joined mancester high, her life was turned upside down. Her father, away on a business trip to Spain, returned with a young woman and her son, Carlos. She was around the same age as Joshua, and is what Cady refers to as a crack-whore, mexican slut. Carlos was around sixteen, so he was always hitting on Cady - which pissed her off. Cady even joined the cheerleaders in high school, and from there, she's only been getting more and more popular, just like her mother would want.
