life
Being one of seven kids isn't easy. There's always the older sibling who can do no wrong or the babies that get all the attention, the brother that everything came easy to or the sister that everyone loves... needless to say, Aidan is a little bitter. He might have had a large family, but he never considered them loving. Yeah yeah, deep down they were his blood and he supposed he cared for them enough, but being constantly over looked pushed those feelings to the back of his mind. His home life had never been the best, a drunk for a father and a mother who walked out as soon as she found out about his affair. They're not something he's proud of, and from very early on Aidan wanted to prove that he wasn't going to end up a deadbeat, or become just another Fitzpatrick that never amounted to anything. They might have called him stuck up or told him was forgetting what was important, but he had ambition and he wasn't going to waste away to nothing.
He completely despises his father and hates being associated with his name. His mother isn't up much higher on Aidan's list, he can understand why she would want to leave but can't quite wrap his head around the fact that she actually did. He finds the newest half-members of the family to be a constant reminder of what a screw up dad was. And while he does love his siblings, he's not about to give up everything he had worked so hard for.
Aidan's selfish in that regard, only concerned about what will affect him, what he'll get out of it. He justifies it by whatever means he feels necessary, because at the end of the day the only person you can trust is yourself. He's off to college now, struggling through biochem and calcus, but it will all be worth it. He's the only one that's gotten out of the house, and though he does come back every now and then, he doesn't want to get too attached. Aidan has worked hard for everything he has, even if he's not the most naturally gifted person in the world, he has the work ethic to get what he wants. Part of his admires Cath for staying with the kids and doing what she is, but another part doesn't get why she would do it and resents her for it.
roleplaying sample
Anyone with common sense would have just left Eliott alone, but Sitara enjoyed picking fights. Giving people a hard time was entertaining, and even though she did not really have anything against him personally, he was a target for her to release her sarcastic remarks on. The fact that he got defensive so easily only made her smirk, wanting to push his buttons even more. "You're right, I really don't know you, Lockier. I don't care to, you are hardly worth the time or effort," the girl replied, crossing her arms defiantly.
He was on the quidditch team and she normally ignored or tolerated him just because of that fact, but it was always fun getting someone a little bent out of shape. "Aw, how cute. You think I actually give a toss about what you have to say. It's nothing I haven't heard before. At least get a bit creative, would you?" Sitara flashed her housemate an obviously fake smile, quite aware that she was a so-called 'pathetic excuse of a Ravenclaw'. That was nothing new, she did not need people to tell her that. She would rather be known as that than an over-achieving geek. Her marks certainly made people question her sorting, though. "Trying to imply that I'm dull? If so, just come out and say it." If Eliott thought she was some ditzy airhead that was going to back down anytime soon, then he had another thing coming.
Of course, not really knowing Eliott brought the downfall that he wasn't the perfect pureblood rich boy that got all O's that she made him out to be. Well, he was in a way, but there was always a different side. People were more than one dimensional, which was something that the girl had a hard time wrapping her head around. It was simpler to judge a book by it's cover, shut them down before they even had a chance. Sitara was quick to form her opinions and her first impressions were usually her last. In her mind, Lockier was a try hard perfectionist, the type she tended to despise the most. If she would have seen his other side, then possibly her feelings would have changed. However, at the moment that was out of the question.
"Go ahead, be embarrassed of me, but I'm not the one blubbering in the corridor," Sitara commented, the same triumphant smirk spread across her lips. She quirked an eyebrow at the older boy, daring him to come back with something. If he knew what was best for himself, he would ignore her and eventually she would get bored and move on. Perhaps they would fight or argue or bicker, that was usually the case. The most unlikely option was that Lockier convinced her he was not all that bad - easier said than done. For now, Sitara was content firing insults at him. It was what she did best, after all.
"Present your defense, I would love to hear it," she said, voice dripping in sarcasm. No matter what Eliott said, she would have something right in return. Making Sitara speechless would a difficult feat, though not entirely impossible. She was pushing his buttons, maybe he would try to push back.
