[style=padding: 5px; text-align: justify; font-size: 9px; font-family: verdana; line-height: 100%;] The break in the week's overcast was exactly the kind of excuse she needed in order to convince Mav to come out to meet her at the beach. Honestly, she probably could have done without the excuse altogether. When it came to Mav, Dakota could probably do anything she pleased. She treated the senior with the same approach. Knowing someone since the third grade happened to have that kind of effect. Of course, Dakota's strong affections for Maverick also probably played a role in there. Somewhere. Everywhere. Nowhere. Whatever the case, Dakota couldn't think of anyone other than Mav or Baylee that she'd rather spend a cozy day at the beach with. Baylee was only prioritized in front of Mav because of their relation. Had she not been her twin, much less her sister, Dakota probably wouldn't have thought to ask her first. The two twins were incredibly different in tastes, hobbies, and practically everything else under the sun. It was one of the Earth's greatest wonders how two totally different personalities could mingle so well. That is, when Baylee had the time to mingle with her. Unlike Dakota, Baylee always had plans, and more often than not, they weren't with her twin. Dakota wasn't at all offended. She knew that she lacked in the "cool" department. Whereas Baylee might be completely entranced by a guy with a dignified six pack, Dakota was much more interested in the intricate plotlines of a romance novel. Lust was a key aspect in many of the modern novels she read. Actually, all romances from every era gave her a taste for the sensual thoughts of people throughout the ages. Believe it or not, it was literature that perked Dakota's curiosity about the subject more than drooling over hot men, experiencing hormones first-hand. Was her hesitance because of an unspoken pact she'd made within her conscience? Could her vow to remain pure have anything to do with it? The answer was most probably yes. Dakota was saving herself. She was saving herself for her so-called "Prince Charming," though many of her fantasies about actually following through with the deed included Mav as her partner. Was that sick of her? Was it completely inappropriate for her to imagine Maverick as not only a partner in life but also in bed? Dakota sighed, pushing the thought to the side. Yes, it was sick. It was completely and utterly disgusting. Earth to Kota, her mind replayed. She blinked back any surfacing daydreams to return her mind back to the thief himself. He looked absolutely gorgeous today, sculptured body as defined as ever. Dakota threw him a charmed grin as the waves rolled over her bare legs. The water felt nice on her skin. The sun was beating down persistently. The beach was full of beach-goers with their umbrellas. Children built sandcastles with sloppily-dug moats. Preteens sat bathing, trying to soak up the sun before winter. Adults either swam, watched their kids, sunbathed, or combined all three activities in a heroic attempt to please everyone. The last option, Dakota had to admit, seemed unconquerable. Being a parent had to be so hard, she always thought. First of all, giving birth sounded downright painful. The depression mothers supposedly went through after labor seemed horrific, and attempting to function without sleep gave her chills. If there was one thing Dakota loved more than life itself, sleep was probably a plausible candidate. After Mav, of course. She waded over to his side and let her feet fall beneath her. She floated for a moment, just enjoying the contrast of hot and cold, water and sun. "This is so nice," she mused, eyes peering up at Mav with narrow slits. The sunshine made it difficult for her to face him head-on. [/style]

. like a waterfall in slow motion seven.three.three - kota - click ------------------------------------------------------------------The beach was not a place Mav frequented often. He found it way to crowded for its own good so he usually avoided it. It wasn’t like he really hated the beach, just how it was the usual summer…and well every time of the year hang out. It went from swimming and sand castles in the spring and summer to bonfires and cuddling in the fall and winter. Of course when Kota called and asked if he would go to the beach he couldn’t say no. Kota was his best friend and had been since they had met in the third grade. You couldn’t really break a bond like theirs. He remembered how when his third grade eyes had set sight on her he couldn’t help but feel gravitated towards her. Kota and Baylee had been playing in the sandbox on the playground and Mav had found his short legs taking himself towards the two of them. Even though the two girls were twins there was something about Kota that set her apart, a sparkle. She had been his first crush and he had always harbored those feelings for her. Not like he had ever told her about them, no he wasn’t going to hurt the tight bond that they had established over the years by telling her how he felt. Although there was that one time in eighth grade before he thought that he was going to be sent to live with his grandparents in Arizona instead of with his aunt and uncle in town where he had almost told her. He had chickened out of course so they had always stayed a secret.
Mav had really started shoving his feelings for Kota away their freshman year. He got in with the jocks while she was recruited to the preps. As soon as he started playing baseball and buffing up though it seemed like he could have any girl. Of course he chose to take advantage of that. It was the only way that he could make himself pretend that the feelings he had for his best friend didn’t exist. He had always imagined what it would be like if she did reciprocate her feelings for him. It probably would be the happiest day of his life. He couldn’t imagine spending his life with anyone other than his best friend. Not that he was planning on marrying her. Although it wasn’t as if he hadn’t thought about it though. The thought was always pushed aside and kept at bay by whatever girl he was dating at the time. None of them never seemed good enough for him though. They never compared to Kota though, none of them.
The sun that beat down on his bare chest started to pull him out of his thoughts. He just needed to enjoy the time he had with her whenever he got it. He knew that one day Kota would find the prince charming she was always swooning about and Mav would be a distant memory. He looked over at her in the water and couldn’t help but let a lazy smile cross his face. What he wouldn’t give to just wrap his arms around her in more than just a friendly way. He suppressed a sigh not wanting to have her think anything was wrong. That in itself could open up a huge bag of worms. He would either have to think of some stupid lie or confess his real thoughts to her, neither thing he was wanting to do. He hated the idea of lying to her and avoided that at all costs except for his true feelings for her. That was him protecting himself though. He had seen how horribly his parents relationship had fallen apart and there was no way he was going to let that happen with him and Kota. Yes it was probably best to keep those feelings at arm’s length. As his best friend made her way to his side he couldn’t help but drape his arm over his shoulders. ‘Ya it is.’ He smiled down at her and couldn’t help but let his smile turn a little evil. Without really processing the idea he soon had dunked Kota under the water. When he pulled her up he held her tightly against him so no matter how much she flailed she wouldn’t be able to do anything in retaliation. .

[style=padding: 5px; text-align: justify; font-size: 9px; font-family: verdana; line-height: 100%;] The water felt nice on her legs, arms, face, everything. Dakota always loved the beach. She was a water baby. Her mom and dad often brought her to the beach when she was a young girl. Baylee wasn't ever very found of it, but Dakota dragged her in anyways. She loved all of the aspects of the beach. The water was a great place to cool down, and the sand was useful for making sand castles, sunbathing, and playing Frisbee. Although Dakota wasn't all that athletic, she loved a good game of Frisbee. It was technically a sport, but there wasn't very much pressure to win. Seeing the Frisbees soar was all she needed to be content. It was easy to say she was easily amused. Frisbee, sand castles, and the sun were all she needed in order to be entertained. By the time she was twelve, her maintenance became even easier to deal with. People watching became a hobby, and she'd sit and tell Mav about her theories of random couples' stories. She hadn't actually done any of that for awhile, though. Most of her time was occupied by reading, doing homework, studying, or writing. She didn't know why she completely cut the beach out of her life for the last few months. It probably had something to do with Baylee. Dakota worried about her older twin. Her respect for herself had been slowly dwindling since the incident with their uncle. She was known for sleeping around, and Dakota couldn't do anything about it. This was Baylee's decision, and Dakota knew better than anyone else that trying to convince her sister of anything other than what her mind wanted was a waste of time. That didn't mean she hadn't tried in the past. She did. Many times. A few arguments sprung from them, though they didn't last long. Dakota was much too soft-spoken to keep up a fight for long. If anything, it was a miracle if she could even initiate an argument. She was a very passive gal. "Yeah, it is," he said. Dakota's eyes remained closed for the moment. She liked floating on the surf. Her body bobbed up and down with the waves, and she felt at rest with everything. Being here with Maverick only made everything better. Suddenly, water entered her nose as something forced her under. It took her a moment to identify the force as Mav. Once she finally resurfaced, she flailed. "Mav!" she whined. She was coughing and huffing because of the water she ingested, but other than that, she was alright. "You," she cried, hitting him playfully. "Big!" Another hit. "Fat!" Yet another hit. "Jerk!" She blew the remainder of the water from her nostrils and went still in Mav's arms. He was warm, but the breeze off the water made her a bit cold. "Can you put me down now?" she asked. "I won't do anything, I promise." She gave him an innocent-enough face, but innocent wasn't anywhere in her cards. As soon as he put her down, she'd get her revenge. [/style]

. like a waterfall in slow motion six.two.eight. - kota - click ------------------------------------------------------------------Mav really couldn’t ask for anything more. So maybe the beach hadn’t really always been his thing, but he was here with Kota. A small smile graced his lips as he looked at her. He really wished that somehow the girl knew his real feelings. It seemed like every time he got up the courage to tell her something prevented it. He remembered the first time that he almost told her about how he truly felt. She had just entered high school and he was feeling overly protective. He remembered the guys in the locker room talking about the new freshman and remembered her name coming up. He had gotten so mad at the things the other guys were saying to the point that he almost socked one in the face. He of course didn’t because he had kept his feelings so under wraps. After he had gotten out of practice he decided he was going to tell her. How could he not? He had just gotten so angry about other guys talking about her so it was only natural for him to make sure that could never happen again. He had almost reached her when he was stopped by an ex. Things got a little out of hand and long story short he ended up not telling her.
He let out a sigh. Maybe this was the universe telling him it wasn’t meant to be. She was always going to be his best friend and that was that. One day he would watch her walk down the aisle with some lucky guy while he just bit his tongue. Kota deserved someone great anyways. He knew that there were many people out there better for Kota than him. She was always so sweet and caring and just so well innocent was the only word that Mav could think of. Mav was the opposite of that. He was a total flirt and could be kind of a jerk sometimes. Sometimes he wondered why Kota still stuck around. Sure they were best friends and had been since they were eight years old. Still, sometimes Mav wondered why she stuck around. They had grown up so different and yet they still stuck by one another’s side. He would never leave Kota’s side, well until she found her prince charming and didn’t need him anymore. That would probably be the day that Mav totally spiraled. He hated the thought of Kota with someone else. She hadn’t had many boyfriends in her high school career, but Mav was jealous of every single one of them. He knew that as soon as she met the one it was going to be hard for him to stick around.
Mav couldn’t help laughing as he brought Kota out from under the water. He knew that she wasn’t going to be very happy with him, but any excuse to be close to her. Sure they cuddled as friends sometimes, but it wasn’t anything like he wanted. So he took every opportunity he could to hold her close. He laughed a bit more as she hit him trying to emphasize each word as she hit him. It wasn’t like it really hurt, but he humored her by making fake hurt faces. Mav shook his head at her as he looked down at her. ‘I’m not stupid. You’re going to try and get me back. Remember Kota, I know you.’ Mav smiled widely and then rested his chin on top of her head. He figured that if anyone who didn’t know them saw them they would figure they were dating and frankly Mav didn’t mind that. He wished that he was dating her, but he wasn’t. She was just his best friend and he had to live with that. .
