mickey mouse was going to be in her house. besides the rhyme, which had made her smile like a dope, she hoped that he wouldn't think of her house or her mom too odd. they were both pretty weird things and people, possibly even weirder than herself. while the outside of their oceanfront home seemed to blend in with the rest of the houses on the block that was as far as the hayes house went for conformity. averill had grown up with kenya, completely adjusted to her bohemian styles and how she channeled her tastes into everything that she touched. averill's room had not been able to escape the stylish tastes of kenya hayes. averill could not complain, she would haven't ever felt the need to complain anyway. her mother had something that she loved to do and out of it averill got a comfortable living places that was just as comfy as it was fashionable. with this being her norm, she wasn't sure that mickey had ever seen anything quite like the hayes home. kenya was as bohemian as they came, even her helped her fight for the title. from what she had gathered from mickey he would make the best of the hayes home and be polite about what he had said. that would leave a nice impression of him on kenya.
in her outfit she felt like mickey would further gain the impression that she and her mom were a bunch of modern day hippies. averill would only laugh, because her mom was as much of a hippie as she could be, and averill simply humored her beliefs. in her high to low skirt she felt comfortable, and whatever mickey thought about her getup was his own business. it was close to noon, she had only gotten up a hour before, with her messy hair to prove that. the week had gone by and it was saturday, and mickey would be over in only a matter of minutes. by minutes, a half hour was more exact. averill had looked around the living room, bare feet cool against the hardwood, searching for her phone. mickey had probably expected her to be up earlier, closer to nine maybe, but that was not an average for averill. she spent the duration of her night pestering her mom, watching scifi, or trying to get herself to fall asleep. it usually never worked. her phone was finally located, hidden by one of the quilts that her mom had knitted when she had been going through her knit everything! stage. there was two texts from mickey and both had been sent within the last hour. averill quickly keyed out a reply, telling him that everything was still a go and she would see him in a bit.
in the kitchen averil began to rummage through the fridge, pulling out all of the things that would be needed to make the burgers. she had forgot to tell mickey that her mom was a vegan, and they would only have tofu meat to cook the burgers with. averill didn't think that it tasted any different from the actual thing, but maybe that was because it was what she had grown up with all of her life. mickey wouldn't mind too much, she decided, pulling out the seasonings from the cabinets and a spatula and pan. the add ons were still left in the fridge, but she set out the bacon and the cheese. it was all prepared, now all that was needed would be for a mickey to appear on the door step. kenya was hovering around, admittedly excited that a boy was coming over. it had been a good while since averill had brought any over to the house or invited anyone over at all. "he's not like jax, mom," averill reminded her, giving her a subtle smile and looking out at the hallway. mickey had promptly arrived, knocking on the door with a gentle hand. she made her way over to the door, pulling it open with a warm smile, and beckoning him into the entry of the house. "mickey, hi," averill softly cooed, stepping back, letting him shut the door behind him. "i see you found your way over just fine. this is the hayes house, and this is my mom, kenya," averill said in a mouthful, motioning over to her mom. she stepped back again, entertaining the living room and looking at him, her eyes telling him to step further into the house.
