[/style] Today was sort of a lazy day for Drew. It was the weekend so he decided he had the right to sleep in for once--he rarely ever did. He laid in bed comfortably, not sure if he was ever going to get up. He just didn't feel like doing much of anything at the moment. The boy had never felt this comfortable and wanted to relish the moment. Sadly, the rest of the world didn't know this and kept on with its usual routine. Drew sighed, threw off the covers, and ambled into the bathroom where he brushed his teeth and got himself ready.
When he was finished, he jogged down the stairs and into the kitchen. He went through all of the cupboards, the fridge, aimlessly looking for something to eat. He wasn't really all that hungry, but he felt like he needed some sort of food to eat. Finally, he chose a cup of strawberry yogurt. He slowly peeled of the top, licked it clean, and threw it in the garbage. Then, he opened a drawer and pulled out a spoon so he could eat. He wasn't a big fan of Yoplait yogurt. He didn't like the occasional chunks of fruit that he found in it. Unfortunately, that was all his parents ever bought, telling him that Trix yogurt was for little kids and he could eat yogurt like an adult or not eat it at all. He tried to explain to them that it didn't necessarily have to be Trix brand (although that was the best in his opinion); there were plenty of other brands of yogurt that didn't have fruit chunks. Obviously, he didn't win that argument.
After he was done eating the yogurt, all but the big chunks of strawberry, he threw the cup in the trash and left his spoon in the sink. He decided to step outside for a moment; it was a gorgeous day and super nice out. Without another thought, he raced up to his bedroom, grabbed his guitar and slung it over his shoulder, and then grabbed the notepad and pen he always kept by his bedside table. Yes, when he was inspired enough, he attempted to write lyrics. Attempted. He never really looked at them as any good, but they were a start. Not that he was interested in having an actual career in music. He bolted down the stairs, slipped on his converse, and made his way to the park. He liked going there; it was only a couple blocks away and it was always inspiring to him. He liked to mess around on his guitar and sometimes wound up with some little tune every once in a while. It was more fun to play something he made up rather than real songs.
Once he reached the park entrance, he made made his way to his usual spot. He slipped his guitar from his shoulder, grasping it by the neck, and plopped down against one of the bigger trees settled in northside park. Drew set his notepad and pencil beside him and began playing a few chords. He reached for the tuning pegs, twisting and turning each one until his baby sounded perfect. He let his hands fall where they needed to be and started playing random notes that turned into a tune he had been working on. He was hoping that coming here would give him inspiration to some lyrics to go along with it.

Jay felt like her life was spiraling out of control and no matter what she did she couldn’t stop it. She stared up at the ceiling as she laid in her bed letting the silence surround her. Her huge house had been more silent than normal ever since her mother was kicked out. Not like she could blame her dad for kicking her out. She had had an ongoing affair for the past few months so of course he was going to kick her out. Jay honestly didn’t know what was happening beyond that though. She was pretty sure that her dad was going to file for divorce though. The way her parents had been yelling the night he found out didn’t sound like they could ever figure it out. Plus her dad had always been a believer that if someone is a cheater they will always be a cheater. She only knew this because her dad had instilled those beliefs in her as soon as she was old enough to even think about boys
Jay let out a sigh knowing that she needed to get up and try and do something with her life. Maybe if she got out of the house she would start feeling a bit better. She rolled off of her bed and landed on her hands and knees. Not really wanting to get up, she crawled over to her drawers and sat on the ground. She grabbed some clothes out of her drawer and threw them on. After finally standing up and then lacing up her shoes she grabbed her phone and was out the door. She was about to yell out saying that she would be back before remembering that she was the only one home. She sighed again and walked out the front door.
The park wasn’t that far from where she lived so she felt like she was there quickly. She entered the park and looked around a bit. She didn’t really expect to see anyone here that she knew. It had been getting hotter so there were barely people out during the day. Jay walked through the park looking at the happy families and trying not to just scream. It wasn’t their faults that they were happy while her family fell apart. She must have not really been paying attention because before she knew it she was falling onto the ground. She rolled over to look at what she tripped over. She rolled her eyes with a soft smile as she looked up at the familiar face. ‘Hey Drew…sorry about that. I really should look where I’m going.’ She rubbed the back of her head as she sat up, moving her legs off of him and positioning herself to sit next to the boy.

[style=background-color: #808080; text-align: center; font-family: georgia; font-size: 8px; height: 40px;] WORDS 690 woo! TAGGED jaylee NOTES give credit to the real joe brooks for the awesome lyrics 'cause my brain would not be able to conjure up lines so beautiful (:
[/style] Most of the music he came up with were about girls, living life, and having fun, sometimes even stuff a person could consider motivational. Today's song seemed to be about some girl. Not just one in particular though. Drew currently didn't have anyone that special to him. The song was just generally about girls in the area. Or at least, what some were like. One minute he was strumming and picking out notes on his guitar, then he would pause, think, and scribble down some words. So far he had the beginning and the chorus:
She hangs wind chimes from her ears But I still can't tell which way her mood is blowing The shades of her eyes well don't Let them fool you now 'cause naive is not her middle name
She's a kaleidoscope, a new shade for each new way In which she draws you close and then stumbles on your name She is a battlefield, except you're fighting with yourself To keep your heart of steal from melting to the ground
She's in a kaleidoscope She's in a kaleidoscope
Andrew stopped writing and began playing around again. Playing helped him think better. Not just with lyrics, but with his school work and stuff too. For some reason it made him concentrate better on what he was doing and he usually ended up finishing it faster if he played while doing it. Yes, it seems totally stupid and unbelievable, but it works for him. Or, if he's having problems, it helps him to play. Drew isn't one to spill his whole life story to anyone and everyone that comes his way. He doesn't like talking about himself. Don't get me wrong, he's a very outgoing and friendly guy, just not in the emotional way. However, he is a great listener. He believes he gets it from his mother. She is a psychologist and constantly wants to know how he's feeling and whatnot. Quite frankly, it gets annoying. He paused again to jot down the next stanza:
A moat surrounds her fortress Her long technicolor hair she dangles almost to the ground So that my finger tips always fall short of The light that grows so sweet and blindly guides without a care
Drew started writing down the chorus again, but after the first two lines, he decided it was better to change it up a little bit:
She's a kaleidoscope, a new shade for each new way In which she draws you close and then stumbles on your name She is an astronaut dancing freely through the air Between each telescope that tries to catch her if they dare
Andrew set the pencil down. The next part was always what took him the longest to come up with. He always wanted it to be super good, but was never fully satisfied. However, today he felt very inspired. He started playing his guitar some more, closed his eyes and waited for the words to come to him. Suddenly a disturbance occurred: someone had tripped over his leg that was sticking out. Drew's warm brown eyes instantly flashed open and he stopped strumming. He didn't realize he could be a danger to any passing walkers. His eyes followed the girls body all the way to where her head was and then she turned over. His lips curved up into a smile as he recognized Jaylee. "Hey Drew…sorry about that. I really should look where I’m going," she said to him before moving up next to him. He nodded in agreement. "That would probably be a good idea. Especially since the path is like two feet down there yet you still managed to trip over my legs. I'm not that tall ya know," he told her with a faint laugh.
He realized his notepad full of his lyrics were sitting right out in the open where Jay could see. He's very shy about letting people see that stuff. Hopefully she wouldn't notice. He decided to distract her while he hid it. "So," he started, slowly reaching towards the notepad and pencil, "what brings you to the park?" he asked as he grabbed his stuff and slide it under his leg. It wasn't the most sneakiest, but he hoped she hadn't noticed.

Could she not just catch a break? Obviously not because here she was laying on the ground after tripping over someone. She must look like an idiot. Worst part was the person that she tripped over she actually knew. She doubted that Drew would ever really let her live this one down. She slowly rested her head on her knees, squinting her eyes and then looking up at Drew with a small half smile. That really was all she could force out of herself. ‘Shush. My mind was else where.’ Jay shook her head with a small laugh. It was true though. Her mind was more on what all had been going on in her life. It seemed a lot more important than paying attention to where she was walking. Well that was until she tripped and fell. Then she wished she had been focusing more one where she was going rather than letting her mind bring up things that she hated thinking about.
Jaylee couldn’t help but laugh to herself as she watched him shove his notebook under his leg. She figured it was something to do with music. Her biggest hint being the guitar that was sitting on his lap. Jay was just glad she didn’t hurt that. She knew how much she loved her guitar and how she would probably cry like a baby if it got hurt so she would hate to do that to somebody else. She would probably have offered to buy him a new one, but she knew that nothing could replace your guitar. You made a bond with it and it was a part of you. You couldn’t just buy that back. ‘Oh you know, soaking up the sun. Enjoying the last few days before school starts again.’ Jay played in her mind whether to ask about the notebook or not. She knew that she wouldn’t want to share hers if someone asked so she decided against it. ‘And yourself?’ | [atrb=width,140]words ,388 tagged ,drew outfit ,clickynotes ,gosh sorry that this sucks. it will be better next time! promise! | [cs=2] |

[/style] Drew smiled at her explanation as to why she tripped over him. "Weellll," he said over exaggeratedly, "maybe your mind should be on walking. You know, left right, left right. Just think if I was a complete stranger?" he teased. Then he fiddled around for a little bit on his guitar, playing random little ditties. He paused for a moment to add, "Anyway, you're lucky it was just me." Drew winked at her playfully, his pearly whites shining at her.
Soon, he began strumming some notes on his guitar quietly. He hummed the notes softly--barely audible--to the song he had been working on before Jaylee unexpectedly dropped in. Before he knew it, he had the next few lines ready in his head. The brown-eyed boy was just about to crack his notepad back out, but quickly stopped himself as he remembered he wasn't alone. He was stuck: write the words down and risk Jaylee catching a glimpse and asking questions, or most likely forget the lines completely. After a few short moments, he snuck the notepad over to his other side and quickly jotted down:
So try to catch her if you
Oh, she comes and then she's gone To the eye so kind for the heart so wrong Oh, she comes and then she goes To my eye so kind, that's the one thing for sure she knows
Oh kaleidoscope, a new shade for each new way In which you draw me close and then you stumble on my name You are a battlefield, that leaves me fighting with myself To keep my heart of steel from melting to the ground
She is a kaleidoscope She is a kaleidoscope
Okay, so it took him more than a minute to write the last bits and pieces of the song down. He figured Jaylee was probably curious by now, especially since she had answered his previous question a while ago and he still hadn't answered her. Mostly because he was caught up in his music. He turned to her, flipping his notepad shut and resting the pencil on top of it. "Sorry. Um, soaking up the sun... sounds... hot,"
|
[/b] he said, then realized how that might sound. "Uh, I mean in a literal sense... jokingly," he face palmed his forehead. He probably sounded like a complete idiot. And to think he got straight A's. Drew sighed. "Anyways, I can't believe school is almost starting," he said. Now that he thought about it, it was almost that time of year. "And yourself?" the girl directed the same question at Andrew. He shrugged. "I dunno. I've mostly just been playing around with my music, hanging out, stuff like that I guess. I know it's weird, but I'm actually kinda excited for school to start again. I feel like I didn't really see anyone that much this summer," he told his friend. It was true. He'd probably seen about three or four friends from school. Granted, he does do his music a lot and is usually reading or engaging in some sort of intellectual activity. However, he had a morning routine to run a few miles to stay physically fit, regularly walked places (nearly everywhere). Drew ran a hand along the neck of his guitar. "But unlike me, you have a life, so you're summer was probably a whole lot better." He looked up and smiled at her. "Boys have probably been all over you!" [/div] [/td][/tr][/table][/center][/quote]

It was true, if it had been a stranger she would have apologized profusely and then got up and left. Plus they wouldn’t have known her so they would have no reason to make fun of her. ‘Oh ya, so lucky. Just Drew who will forever make fun of my walking abilities.’ Jay laughed a little. This really was the first time she had smiled since her mom had been thrown out. She needed this. She was lucky it had been Drew and not some stranger. His teasing was helping in some weird and twisted way.
She closed her eyes as she listened to him lightly strum on his guitar, resisting the urge to hum along with the notes that she didn’t know. She opened her eyes and turned her head, resting her cheek on her knee. The standard questions of how long he had been playing and what made him start playing came to her mind, but she shoved them away. She was just not really in the mood to bring up guitar skills because even though she knew that it would in no way mean he would think she played, she knew she would start talking about it and anything concerning either of her parents at that point in time was something she wanted to stay away from.
Jay couldn’t help but laugh a bit as he tried to sneakily write down lyrics or ideas for lyrics or at least that was what she figured he was doing. She wouldn’t say anything though. She knew how personal lyrics could be and when inspiration hit you had to just write them down. ‘Oh, so hot.’ Jay laughed again, her voice a little patronizing, making fun of him and getting him back for him making fun of her walking. ‘Ya me either. I’m dreading it a bit.’ Usually Jay couldn’t wait for school to begin and only disliked that fact that she would be seeing her best friend less. This year she was terrified of walking back down those hallways. The only plus was this year she would be able to hang out with Jax all she wanted thanks to her supposed social suicide.
‘That’s fun. And that’s because you’ve been lame and held up in your house obviously. I mean I’ve been here the entire summer and the only way I get to see you is by tripping over you in the park!’ Of course Jay was joking. She had been there the entire summer, but she had been sort of busy. That was if you counter procrastinating your AP English summer reading paper and playing tennis instead busy. ‘Oh ya such a life. Chilling in my room, staring at my computer screen trying to convince myself to write that stupid AP English summer reading paper.’ Jay couldn’t help but laugh and shake her head at his last comment. ‘Oh you know me. Always have boys lined up.’ Jay wondered if he knew the rumors. She wondered if he knew that she was now bottom of the totem pole. She knew wouldn’t care, but she still wondered. | [atrb=width,140]words ,579 tagged ,drew outfit ,clickynotes ,yay for friends | [cs=2] |

[/style] "Doesn't seem like it today," Drew observed after she smacked him playfully in the shoulder. "Hey now, you never know with those strangers. They could be jerks and say worse things than me, or worse! They could rape you!" he said, shuttering at the thought. Yes, it was very doubtful that she'd come across someone like that, but one never knows. "Oh ya, so lucky. Just Drew who will forever make fun of my walking abilities." Drew shook his head. "No not forever. I'll be done now I promise," he told her truthfully with a grin.
As he played his guitar, he thought about how long he had been playing. When he was ten years old, he watched his cousin back home in Minnesota play at their cousin's wedding and wanted to learn ever since. That year, he got his first guitar for Christmas and he had his cousin teach him how to play. Drew got his second guitar, Lola is her name, when he was fifteen and he's had her ever since. The seventeen-year-old was surprised he had gotten this good since he really doesn't play as much as he used to. Because he focuses on his studies so much during the school year, he really only gets to play around during the summer. This school year, that might be different now that he was writing a lot of songs. Sure he probably wouldn't be playing every day like he was now, but he'd be playing rather than not.
Suddenly Drew heard Jay start laughing while he was finishing up writing. He turned to her, a confused look on his face. "What's so funny?" he asked her, eyebrows raised.
After his little foot-in-mouth fiasco, he felt completely stupid. Jaylee laughed at him--he didn't blame her. It was definitely funny. Drew shook his head and sighed. "Guess that's what I get for teasing you huh?" he asked her. "Gosh I can't believe it came out sounding so wrong! Not that you're not--uh--you're a beautiful girl and--I'm just gonna shut up now." Drew rested his head in his hand, embarrassed. Luckily, the change of subject seemed to take away the embarrassment a bit. "Dreading it? Why's that?" he asked his friend. She didn't really seem like the type to dread going to school. He wondered what made this year different.
Drew nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I'm pretty lame, that's for sure. I mean, not giving you the opportunity to see me?" he joked, winking at her. When she brought up the AP English summer paper, it reminded him that he had it done. "Ya know, I did that this summer too. If you want I could help ya out? I mean, it may be difficult to concentrate what with me being there, but I'd be able to help you get it done," Drew offered. Not that he really enjoyed the summer assignment, but he could still help a friend out if she wanted it. He liked making her laugh. "And I bet you let 'em all down huh?" he asked, jokingly. He was still hung up on why she wasn't too thrilled about school, but he decided not to question it any further unless she was willing to tell him.

Just failing at being sneaky and having foot in mouth syndrome. ‘Oh Drew.’ Jay laughed softly at him being all bumbling. ‘You’re cute when you babble on.’ It really was cute. Anyone who babbled on nervously like that was adorable. She had yet to see someone who didn’t look like a cute lost puppy when that happened. ‘I’m just ready to be gone, ya know.’ Ya she wasn’t going to get into that. [style=background-color: #808080; text-align: center; font-family: georgia; font-size: 8px; height: 40px;] WORDS 769 WOO! TAGGED jaylee NOTES WOW!! I AM SOO SORRY! I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THIS!
[/style] Drew shook his head. "Alright. Let's get real here. The real reason you tripped over me was because you didn't realize it was me and you just thought it some super handsome guy so you decided to get my attention by tripping over me," he concluded. "Hey now, don't be so sure about that! There are some crazy people out there," the boy laughed. Yes it was true, most rapists are a lot smarter than that, but one can never be too sure these days. "And my imagination is awesome, thank you very much." Drew smirked at her as she raised her eyebrows. Of course she wouldn't believe him about this being his last time teasing her. He just couldn't help it. After all, it wasn't anything harmful. Plus, she made it so fun and he liked to joke about it with her. "Hmm... ice cream? That's my prize? What am I four? If you want me to quite you've gotta bribe better than that!" he joked, rolling his eyes. Then he rubbed his thumb and two fingers together and added, "Some cash would be nice." Of course he was joking though. He'd never let her--or anyone for that matter--give him money for something silly like this.
"Failing at being a ninja? Why I have no idea what you're talking about," he said all nonchalantly. Drew knew what she was talking about though. He obviously wasn't as sneaky as he thought he was with his notepad. "I am a great ninja because ninjas don't fail." With that, he nodded to help prove his point. He shook his head at her. A smile made its way to his mouth and he began to chuckle a little. "Yeah, yeah." The brunette started fiddling with his guitar strings, feeling the different texture of each string.
He hated when he babbled. It was so embarrassing, and babbling made it totally obvious he was embarrassed. He just hated the feeling; it wasn't normal for him. Oh Drew." The seventeen-year-old looked up at her. "What?" he asked. When she told him he was cute when he babbled. "Oh." He could feel his cheeks flush as he glanced down. Gosh, he usually never got nervous or felt all flustered; it was all so weird for him.
"I'm just ready to be gone, ya know?" He nodded in agreement. Although Drew could tell that wasn't all, he figured she obviously didn't wanna talk about it so it didn't bother questioning her any further. "Yeah, I totally get it." Drew felt the same way some days. Just to be out of stupid high school and into the real world. But he was worried about that too. He wasn't exactly sure what he wanted to do yet after high school. He knew he should do something practical, but he really wanted to play music and perform as weird as it sounded. But, he knew that would probably never happen so in the mean time, he focused on doing well in school so he could go to college and figure out what he "wanted" to do with the rest of his life.
Drew couldn't help but laugh. "Ha! That's a good one! Gorgeous model, haha, no I've just been playing music a lot over the summer, filling out college applications and all that stuff. Don't worry, I could never replace you ever. I mean look at you. Plus, you're way too much fun to get rid of. Much better than some gorgeous model, that's for sure," he grinned. Yeah, he was being cutesy and flirty, what some might call "being a suck up," but it was all true. Jaylee was a great girl, and he wars glad he had the pleasure of knowing her. "I am sorry for not leaving time open for you," the brown-eyed boy apologized. His summer probably would've been a lot more eventful if he would've made more time for his friends rather than just Lola, his guitar. After he offered his help on the summer English paper, she too said she had finished it, but she wanted him to look over it. "Yeah, I could do that for ya if you want," he told her.
"I had to. I mean had to explain my heart belonged to someone else," Jay told him as she batted her eyelashes. Drew smiled and put his hands to his heart. "Aww, and here I thought you forgot about me," he said, winking. He then lightly pinched her cheek like grandmas always do to their grandchildren. He loved how easy it was to joke around with Jaylee, and they got along so well.
