life
michael was born an only child in toronto, ontario. his mother was a real germ freak, a stay-at-home mom. she was constantly cleaning the house until it was spotless--or more than it already was. his dad was the editor of the local newspaper and was gone during the day a lot. mike's parents loved each other very much and were extremely protective of their only son. after all, it did take a long time getting him. he was basically a miracle and lucky to be alive. his mother, tara, went through a lot of miscarriages, yet she pushed on because she wanted a baby very much. finally, the couple ended up with little michael jordan, and even though they had planned on having at least two children, they knew that wasn't going to happen.
as micah grew older, he inherited much of his mother's "habits." in other words, he became a neat freak. how could he not? his parents rarely allowed him to go to friends houses, and if they did, it was only for a few hours. he was lucky they let him go to school. the couple was so afraid of losing him that they kept him sheltered (or as much as they possibly could). he was a smart kid and made friends easily.
he started going to work with his dad when he was ten and loved it. he got to know the people really well and his dad even ended up giving him an internship there when he turned sixteen. michael loved it there and new from then on that he wanted to be an editor just like his father. during his senior year, he started looking for colleges. he really wanted to go the the united states. his family didn't travel much--or at all really--and he wanted to get out into the world. he found one he really like in ocean city, maryland and talked to his parents about going there. before he even talked to them he knew they'd disapprove. and of course, he was right. they said no. there was a big commotion, and it ended with mike saying, 'too bad, i already applied.'
he was accepted there, along with a few other colleges, but he told his parents he was going to ocean city. his parents weren't happy about, but they told him they would help pay for college, and he had to call at least once a day. his father, rick, had an easier time than his mom, but eventually, they both allowed him to go.
roleplaying sample
Today was sort of a lazy day for Drew. It was the weekend so he decided he had the right to sleep in for once--he rarely ever did. He laid in bed comfortably, not sure if he was ever going to get up. He just didn't feel like doing much of anything at the moment. The boy had never felt this comfortable and wanted to relish the moment. Sadly, the rest of the world didn't know this and kept on with its usual routine. Drew sighed, threw off the covers, and ambled into the bathroom where he brushed his teeth and got himself ready.
When he was finished, he jogged down the stairs and into the kitchen. He went through all of the cupboards, the fridge, aimlessly looking for something to eat. He wasn't really all that hungry, but he felt like he needed some sort of food to eat. Finally, he chose a cup of strawberry yogurt. He slowly peeled of the top, licked it clean, and threw it in the garbage. Then, he opened a drawer and pulled out a spoon so he could eat. He wasn't a big fan of Yoplait yogurt. He didn't like the occasional chunks of fruit that he found in it. Unfortunately, that was all his parents ever bought, telling him that Trix yogurt was for little kids and he could eat yogurt like an adult or not eat it at all. He tried to explain to them that it didn't necessarily have to be Trix brand (although that was the best in his opinion); there were plenty of other brands of yogurt that didn't have fruit chunks. Obviously, he didn't win that argument.
After he was done eating the yogurt, all but the big chunks of strawberry, he threw the cup in the trash and left his spoon in the sink. He decided to step outside for a moment; it was a gorgeous day and super nice out. Without another thought, he raced up to his bedroom, grabbed his guitar and slung it over his shoulder, and then grabbed the notepad and pen he always kept by his bedside table. Yes, when he was inspired enough, he attempted to write lyrics. Attempted. He never really looked at them as any good, but they were a start. Not that he was interested in having an actual career in music. He bolted down the stairs, slipped on his converse, and made his way to the park. He liked going there; it was only a couple blocks away and it was always inspiring to him. He liked to mess around on his guitar and sometimes wound up with some little tune every once in a while. It was more fun to play something he made up rather than real songs.
Once he reached the park entrance, he made made his way to his usual spot. He slipped his guitar from his shoulder, grasping it by the neck, and plopped down against one of the bigger trees settled in northside park. Drew set his notepad and pencil beside him and began playing a few chords. He reached for the tuning pegs, twisting and turning each one until his baby sounded perfect. He let his hands fall where they needed to be and started playing random notes that turned into a tune he had been working on. He was hoping that coming here would give him inspiration to some lyrics to go along with it.
