life
nate's parents weren't ecstatic that their child was born deaf. it was kinda a curveball, as it would be for any parent. no one expect's a deaf child, you hope for the best. and that's what they did for their son. of course, they complied with the fact their child lost one of their senses. he gives them props for attempting to learn sign language. of course, they grew fluent over the years. now they can speak and sign to him, which helped him learn lips over the years.
as a child, nate was always curious. so his parents took precaution with him. he was a bit sheltered with the first fourteen years of his life. nate was originally in a school uniquely for the deaf until he was in ninth grade. he grew tired of not being able to socialize with other kids. his parents were originally against this, but because of his constant begging, they were willing to enroll him into a new high school with other kids who weren't necessarily deaf. but normal. excitement filled the boys head, but luck took a quick turn.
he didn't like the quick change of atmospheres.the halls were a lot crowded. but he quickly brushed this off and considered it as an opportunity to make plenty of friends. at this school, people weren't used to deaf people. they were like a different species. of course, he also brushed this off and considered that deaf people weren't some common thing, so they had a reason to be shocked. but the kids here didn't act the way he expected. they didn't socialize with him. when he tried conversing with others, it was difficult, because they always seemed a bit irked by the way he spoke. no one knew sign so the only alternative he had was to speak, which he didn't normally do, but when he did his voice was a bit off like you'd expect froms soemone who couldn't here himself and therefore couldn't correct his announciation like most kids did growing from a toddler to a teen. he grew distaste for the students in the school.
his wish backfired. and the students were awful and he disliked most kids and he avoided people speaking to him. crowded halls were now inconveniences and the weird looks people gave him were now just a sneak peek at their awful character. so he distached himself from the crowds and from the socializing and from the flow of the social hierarchy. he started wearing earphoneds everywhere he went to avoid people talking to him. thus avoiding confrontation and the odd look that said "oh, he's deaf!". he didn't need pity for being deaf. or teasing for being deaf. so he continues as a reject by choice.
