life
"once upon a time there was this girl who didn't have a name. why didn't she have a name? because her parents had abandoned her at the young young young age of two weeks. they never found out who her parents were, but they suspected that it was a teenage couple who had been in over their heads. it was the classic case of the baby in a wad of blankets, left on some random street corner. lady luck must have liked this baby, because the owner of the orphanage right down the street had happened to be walking by. being an older lady, she had seen this case a few times before and knew that they street corner baby would not be claimed. that baby would come to know orphanages for the better part of her life.
she wasn't as cute as the other babies or had the same appeal. they all had a glimmer in their eyes that they young parents or infertile couples wanted to claim. her face was too fat and her lips were too big. the baby didn't look as healthy as the others. it was a competition that she was destined to lose from the start. she grew up, a system kid, and her young years were spent in the orphanage. they named her eventually: blayke. why? because when asked what the had wanted to be called she had said 'flake' and they couldn't name her that. so blayke was the alternative. the girl was bubbly and showed potential, but didn't stick out as much as the other kids did. by age six she had yet to have sparked an interest in anyone. the owner was beginning to get worried that she would never have any hope and decided that it was time to start shipping her off to foster homes.
the williams were the first foster home that the girl went to. she was there for only a little over two months. outside of the orphanage her personality had begun to blossom. the williams were the first to learn that blayke could be a complete menace. she had a very controlling personality and she could be very intimidating. while she was bubbly and cute and charming there was a whole other part of her. she wanted things her way and would throw tantrums when she didn't get what she wanted. the williams terminated their experience with the little girl early and returned her to the orphanage. the owner couldn't understand, she thought that blayke was a complete joy. she observed her for a bit and decided that they would try to ship her out to another foster family. this time the best family got blayke dumped onto their hands. they were able to care for her for nearly half a year. they were an understanding couple and had plenty of patience. but then she threw a play pan at their son and gave him a concussion. she was back at the orphanage the next morning.
her life was spent like this until she was eleven years old. in her eleven years she had gone through over thirty foster homes and no one had ever wanted to claim her as their daughter. that didn't put a dent in her pride but it made it all the more apparent just how much of a handful the girl could be. on her twelfth birthday, christmas eve, she got the best present that any oprhan kid could have ever asked for. the mayor of ocean city had been thinking of adopting a kid for a while. the bigger reason was that it would look good for his reputation, but his late wife had been infertile and they had always wanted a kid. his eye had been set on blayke for a while, but he was waiting for the right time. he wanted to ask the girl if she would come and live with him. while the orphanage was having their christmas eve dinner he came in and made an announcement, asking her if she would come and live him. she was confused, but giddy, and said yes.
the mayor, her dad, instantly wanted to get her involved in this. she was twelve and had always done remarkable in school, but her extra curricular activities were slacking. she had done some gymnastics over the years and had cheered for a year, but everything in her life had been inconsistent. he put her back in cheer and told her that she needed at least one thing in her life to be proud of. cheer became the one thing that she got a kick off, wanted to be dedicated to, and absolutely loved. she was a natural and it was obvious that she would cheer for the rest of her schooling career. she did cheering for football and basketball, participated in all of the fundraisers, went to every practice, and begged her dad to sign her up for cheer champ. she had all of her trophies and medals lining her room, she made cheer bows, and she helped choreograph the dance routines. she had found the one thing that she had a knack for. and she wasn't going to let it go.
her dad lost the election the year she had started high school. it was devastating for the family of two because that is what they depended on. he no longer had any benefits and their comfortable life was torn from them. though they were poor and no longer had their old life blayke's dad would not let her get down. he urged to be proud of who she was, to keep supporting herself, even though he couldn't. he tried, but what happened was he fell into depression. he had a job but he was no longer himself. it made blayke worried because she had no idea how to make it better. so what did she do? she shut that part of her life and decided that she would do her best to be well liked. it worked, she had the personality that people were attracted to and they were intimidated of her, and with good reason. she was only a freshman and had everything she wanted, except her home life was shoddy and she really had nothing. she wouldn't let the fact that her life was crappy get her down. blayke did good in school, had cheer to rely on, and she had become very independent.
she met jamie in her freshman year. blayke was attracted to him because he was nothing like her own crazy self. the first thing she had said to him was "your accent is sexy" and their friendship took off from there. they became inseparable, and i bet you can tell how the rest of the story goes. they started dating in their sophomore year and they became that couple was well liked. blayke was a cheerleader and jamie was a prep, they were black and white, and everyone loved them. they continued dating until halfway through their junior year, when jamie broke up with her because they just weren't good together anymore. what he never knew was that blayke never recovered from the breakup but compromised for becoming his best friend again. she had to get more jobs to try and support her family and cheer became more of her life.
i'm still in love with him."
