Benning Phase "Designed to assess a Soldier’s physical stamina, mental toughness, and leadership abilities”
The day was a rainy day of January, a rather strange thing to be happening during that time a year; a baby boy was being born under the name of Heathcliff Caan Whitfield. The little boy would be William Whitfield pride and joy. The man had been longing to have a son; luckily for him the lord granted him his little yet important wish. There was little to say that the male loved the kid to death, no need to mention his mother; ever since the infancy Heathcliff was very well taught on how to make sure to deal with several things on his own, causing him to be rather independent. Yes, one might think that is too much for such a younger person but that is the way the Whitfield family seemed to work, ever since the boy was old enough to read, walk and speak he was able to do most of the thing s on his own. He would get up, get dressed and make some food for himself. Yes he was no chef but the boy knew how to make the basic things. It didn’t took long for him to realize that if he wanted something he would need to work for it; yes, the boy was sort of forced to be mature even from such a young age. Little to say he was soon also entering the sports that he could, his father taking him to play baseball or football whenever he could.
“Talk about my infancy; It was probably a though time for me, then again it did helped to build me up with working for whatever it is I want or need. I have never thought my parents should have done things differently, because what they did caused me to become the man I am today; I make my family proud and that is one of the most important things in my life, if not the most important one”
Mountain Phase"Students receive instruction on military mountaineering tasks, mobility training, as well as techniques for employing a platoon for continuous combat patrol operations in a mountainous environment"
At this moment Heathcliff was really beginning to be like his father; he was probably the no nonsense definition of born leader; he was the type who would step up the plate even at the smallest thing possible. If anyone needed to get something organized Heath was the one who walked up to them and started to tell them what to do or how to do it. It wasn’t like he was a bossy person, a control freak, who needed to make sure that everything was being done exactly how he said it; that was not the case at all. In reality he was just adapted to being a leader; he was the one who everyone turned too. From that age he entered the baseball league along with the football team of the school he was in; playing the pitcher for baseball and Quarterback for the football team. Some people might say he was your average future jock; the boy who had every girl swooning after his every word; the one who would date the hottest girl in school and be promoted Prom King by the end. While some of those things were true, he was not the typical stereotype. Heathcliff was more interested in his grades and being a good sport’s man that sleeping around and being popular. The whole popularity just came with the territory; and he liked to think he was able to break away from the usual standard.
“Alright, Yes, one might say I was a bit of a jock; but I was just very keen on doing exercise, I loved being outside instead of watching TV and sitting all day in front of a computer; although I do know how to use it despite common believe[chuckles] On the other hand, playing sports helped me be able to get a scholarship, which allowed me to help my father which was one of my main concerns back at that time, he did so much for me, it was only fair to try and give some back”
Florida Phase “This phase focuses on the continued development of the Ranger Student's combat arms functional skills. Students receive instruction on waterborne operations, small boat movements, and stream crossings upon arrival”
When it came time to choose a career type there was no need for the male to even come to think about it; he wanted to follow his father’s steps and become an Army Ranger in order to serve his country. It had been slightly influenced by his father, he could not deny it, but the whole decision ended up being his own. The boy soon enlisted himself and went off to start the long training to become a soldier. Given his personality it didn’t took long for him to take the lead on several things; he was prepared both physically and mentally for any sort of challenge; this being the time when he thanked his father for raising him in the way he did. Now; even when some of his friends ended up telling him this was not the best decision, it was his decision to make and he prayed and hoped that everyone would end up pushing away the whole dislikes and end up supporting him in the end. The years he spent preparing himself were a few of the toughest so far in his life; then again he had never expected it to be a walk in the park. Even more given the fact that he had decided to become a sniper; now truth be told there were several reasons for him to choose this position; even when some of them were hidden way deep in his mind, others were yet to be discovered by him. All in all; this was what he had wanted to do his entire life, and now that he had managed to do so, he could not feel better about himself.
“Yes; a soldier, I know I could have been anything else in the world, I am not cocky but I know I have the brains and the attitude to achieve what I want, then again this is what I want so I went for it. Now; I know it caused some people to be slightly upset, but hey, if they didn’t got any crap from my part for them choosing the career they decided to choose then they are not allowed to do it to me; I have my reasons and they have their reasons [smiles] I am not angry so quit looking at me like that”
Desert Phase "They received classes on desert-survival techniques to include water procurement and water preservation. Leadership responsibilities, standing operating procedures (SOPs), reconnaissance, and ambush techniques were also reviewed. Additional emphasis was placed on battle drills to include react to enemy contact, react to indirect fire, and react to near and far ambushes”
This was without a doubt the time when all training came to test; Heathcliff was send off to war, his duty to protect the country and make sure to come back alive to his family, along with keeping the members in his squad alive to return home as well. Little to say Heath was ready to go and serve his country; and even when he was not picturing war as they do in action movies when the leader always survives, he was not entirely prepared for what he had to encounter there. Luckily for him he was a man of action and quick thinking, he did not froze under stressful situations; he made sure to act accordingly; to rush his mind into creating the perfect attack or defense possible in the little time they were given. While being deployed oversea on one of the last missions if not the last; Heathcliff was attacked by surprise, him and his entire unit were surrounded and taken as war prisoners. Locked away in what seemed to be a small dusty room Heathcliff was treated with every known torture possible; not being able to know when the day ended or when it had starter; counting the moments at the best of his ability to try and make up the days; using the regular visits to his cell to try and realize about the time. Time skipped away; day after day it was mostly the same until one day the hand that came to rest upon his body wasn’t harsh but quite contrary. It was different, the touch almost feeling unknown to him now. That was the moment when he was rescued; but a lot of time had passed and he was not really in the best of shape. Given the critic condition he was in they send him back to the states where the hospital would take care of him.
The moment his eyes opened with a conscience turned on he realized he could hardly remember a thing from his past.He couldn't remember his family or his friends. Sure he knew his name; people there had told him who his mother was but he could not recall ever knowing her. He was too damaged to care, his mind always going back to relieving what had happened to him even when he kept telling people he did not remembered anything at all. His whole unit had been killed; him being the only survivor, well; truth be told he wasn’t considering himself lucky at the time. Nor was he feeling lucky when they told him he was well enough to leave; leave where? He was a mess, and he knew that very well.
“Everything is a cold dark blur, yes I know it is hard to believe but…it is what it is and truth be told I think it is best this way. I did what I had to do, I did what I was trained to do and so I feel no regrets; Do I wish things had ended up differently? Yes, of course I do, but wishing isn’t going to get me anywhere. [sighs] Don’t worry about me; I am fine, anything below the neck works perfeclty”
Peer evaluations
“Oh, Captain Heath? Yes sir he is in my unit; Well sir, I believe he is a very loyal person, a bit of a neat freak but that is always a good trait here in the army, being organized and clean is a thing we are thought; but heading back to the loyalty; I believe he would never betray any of the members sir, I have placed my faith in him, he will make a great leader” 2LT; Andrew Williams
“I believe some might tell you he is always proper; yet he does have a very calm side sir, no I am not pointing out his flaws, in fact I am making you see he will not go overboard with the responsibility and power granted to him. I have tested him myself so there is no possible way for me to biased on the matter” Captain John L. Milton
“A bit egocentric, control freak, too witty at times, known it all, a bit of a prankster…then again, all captains have a little bit of everything, that is what balances out the good qualities, so yes, I do believe he would make a good leader, sir” LT Jeremy Geller.
“I think he will do fine, but if he is late ever again I will make sure to make him pay for it” Captain Charles D’Larousse.
