It wasn't as if she was too much of a goody two-shoes for a good party, but it seemed awkward to attend the birthday bash of a girl she was far from being close to. She was, however, well acquainted enough with the host of the party partially because the dark haired senior hosted several gatherings at her mansion that members of the popular cliques attended and partially because they had been fairly good friends in their younger years. That seemed to matter little when she remembered that the occasion this time had a purpose. It was meant to celebrate a royal's birthday. Though Hayley had heard of May-Ann Jenkins quite often in passing, she was not overly familiar with the younger teen. There had never been any reason for her to befriend the other girl when they seemed to have little in common. Regardless, she couldn't exactly attend a birthday party without bringing a gift, but presenting that said gift to a virtual stranger and chirping an insincere 'Happy birthday!' made her feel almost shameless. Then again, she could easily place the gift among the several others neatly stacked on a polished wooden table in order to avoid any uncomfortable conversations, and it was a bit too late for her to regret her decision to show up now that she was at Desiree's oversized home anyway. There was no way to turn back time to change her mind to show, so she figured she might as well enjoy herself. Walking around, the blonde noted that the house had been made up beautifully for the occasion, but that was to be expected. Desiree was wealthy enough to hire professionals to set everything up, and they would never have the audacity to place childish or gaudy decorations anywhere lest they want to tarnish their reputations. The thought reminded her of why these huge gatherings were so much better than insignificant house parties. There was enough room to move about freely since the guests weren't cramped in limited quarters, and any messes made were quickly tidied up instead of being left to gather as miniature piles of trash. It was an ideal setting to socialise, but Hayley had yet to find anyone worth speaking to. Considering guests were still arriving, hopefully someone would catch her attention soon. She made a pit stop to get a drink, opting for a can of soda instead of any alcohol. The night was still young, and if she began drinking now, there was no telling what kind of state she would be in by the time things really got rolling. It would be both unclassy and embarrassing if she got wasted at the prime party time, and it would surely taint her otherwise spotless reputation. Besides, alcohol had never really been her favourite type of beverage anyway. Taking a quick sip of sods, she resumed her wandering, exchanging greetings with a few of her peers every once in a while.
