Term: Hayden Marie Rhodes
Part of speech: Noun
Definition: Small and generally quiet, it truly is correct to refer to Hayden as a wallflower. She's the type of girl who can be easily overlooked in the grand scheme of things, and she simply fades into the background. She is quiet for the most part because she lacks the people skills to comfortably communicate with others. Her childhood experience has her thinking that dealing with strangers was a difficult feat that does not often turn out well. Until she is comfortable around the specific individual trying to converse with her, she will scarcely speak. During first meetings, she is often completely silent and only shows that she is listening through gestures such as nodding or shrugging. Once she is more comfortably with the said individual, she gradually becomes more talkative and dynamic. Her parents believe that she is selectively mute because her ability to speak varies depending on the situations that she is in. Though the words she wants to reply with form in her mind, they all gather and bunch up in her throat and refuse to escape her lips. She can't bring herself to speak whatsoever, and she has long given up trying to force herself to speak. Her attempts feel like a waste, and she believes that she must look like a complete fool when she attempts to say anything. In the end, she sticks to silence because for the most part, she prefers listening over talking anyway. Though she doesn't often say so, she sometimes wishes that there were more people who would be willing stick around patiently until she feels at ease enough to speak. However, she continues to maintain a constant fear of growing close to others because it's hard to ignore that some view her as easy access to her parents. She doesn't like to seem overly cynical and distrustful of others, but she can't help but to worry.
Origin: Though she wants to maintain an individual identity, people often refer to Hayden by her origins. They know her as the daughter of Vince and Isobel Rhodes due to the fact that her parents are notable individuals. Vince started out as a musician who produced hit songs on a daily basis, but he knew that he wouldn't be famous forever among dynamic teens with interests that fluctuated and changed often. His goal was to make it big and leave a mark on the industry before exiting gracefully instead of suffering a slow, miserable descent from popularity. Isobel had followed after her mother's footsteps and started her career as a runway model, but she found that her passion actually lay with acting. Considering she was already successful in the modeling industry, it was a given that she would have numerous acquaintances who would be useful in helping her break into the acting business. She began with baby steps consisting of minor roles in movies and insignificant appearances in shows, but she gradually made her way to landing big parts that helped spread her name out.
Now how exactly did the musician meet the model turned actress? They were both invited to a large, posh party that was hosted by a friend, and though they didn't pay much attention to each other at first, small talk led to the exchange of phone numbers. Before they knew it, they were constantly talking in their free time. He admired her confidence in a long-lasting career, and she thought that it was almost endearing that he was so cautious and prepared for an abstract future. Together, they found a middle ground in the form of a talent agency. Because they had already experienced what it was like to be in front of cameras and meet crowds cheering fans, they wanted to share the bliss and joy with aspiring teens. It took a while, but they gradually made the transition from the stage to the background, where they picked up observational skills that helped them select talented individuals from groups and groups of people dreaming of fame and fortune. In true love story fashion, they got married once they felt their future together was secure and produced a beautiful baby girl.
One would expect the child of a successful couple to be spoiled rotten, but Hayden had always been on the quiet side. She never dreamt of being the girl that everyone wanted to know, finding that being onstage wasn't thrilling as it seemed. She preferred staying behind the camera, observing the way things worked. There was nothing even slightly appealing about the popularity her parents flaunted, and they accepted that she wasn't interested in showbiz even though she had the means to become a celebrity. They provided her with a considerably normal life at a high-end prep school, but things got to be complicated as she continually brought home peers that would readily ignore her in order to attempt to show off in front of her parents. A meaningful parental talk grew to be inevitable, and in this conversation, they warned her to be careful with who she associated with. The words stuck with her as she grew up, and she gradually withdrew from her peers. Besides what was necessary, she never attempted to make friends or invite anyone over, and the slightest mention of her parents had her turning away in annoyance. In the process she cast aside people who wanted to use her as a connection and people who were genuinely interested in getting to know her.
The slim brunette spoke less and less as a result, but strangers who were unaware that her silence was typical did not always take well to her silence. Some would accuse her of being snobby and thinking she was too good to acknowledge them. There were times when she would readily retort with a sharp tongue, but she would often be further insulted or pushed around. Though she wasn't exactly bullied, she wasn't always treated fairly either. Her young mind began to make the incorrect connection that talking to strangers would likely result in some kind of negative consequence, and it stuck. Finally, she requested that she be home-schooled, which further limited her connections with the outside world. For several years, she enjoyed solitude. Outside of occasionally meeting her parents' business associates or latest projects in formal settings, she evaded contact with others. Her interests were directed to photography, and she found that there was something pleasing about taking up the challenge to take perfect shots that would convey a specific meaning.
However, her peace of mind did not last long. Her parents began to realise that she was greatly lacking in people skills because of her constant tendency to keep to herself, and they decided it was time to send her back out to the real world. Thus she was enrolled in Manchester Preparatory Academy at the start of her freshman year of high school. At first she was overwhelmed by the transition from solitude to being among such large flocks of other teenagers. She experienced minor anxiety and had a great deal of trouble interacting with her peers because she found that speaking to them was a difficult feat. She was never sure what to say because she felt like slipping up on even one word would get her teased or insulted. In addition, a few questions stuck in her mind: who could she trust to like her for her instead of for her parents? If she accomplished something, then would she finally be liked for herself? In the end, she chooses not to speak at all if it can be helped.
