life
Toby was born in Maryland to Hannah and Brian Collins, he was an only child. His mother homeschooled him until he reached the age of fourteen and decided he wanted to go to school like a 'normal' kid. Because he had never gone to school before he was given a 'buddy' to help show him around the school and be his first welcoming friend, as much as other events shaped his life this was the event that truly changed it – this was when he met the love of his life (or so he believed) Heathcliff Whitfield. Heath convinced him to join the football team, which he did, and the two became really good friends although Toby kept his crush on the other a secret from him since he assumed having a girlfriend meant the other was straight.
His next two years of school went by normally, he did relatively well and was even planning a future in computers until he bumped into Heath's ex-girlfriend, she was upset and told him all about Heath joining the army and breaking up with her. His future was set right then; he joined up without another thought and hoped he'd wind up in Heath's training group. He wasn't much to his unhappiness, but he worked hard and became the best communications tech in either team and earning himself a place on the 'super team' they were building. He was glad to see a familiar face in the new unit and immediately latched onto Heath yet again until on one of their missions overseas he decided to get a drink while off-duty and slipped, falling and breaking his ankle. Because of the injury he was held back from the worst mission – and his worst nightmare – where the unit was captured. His ankle healed and he was deployed once again on a new mission, keeping tabs on his former unit the best he could.
During this mission he was shot in the knee and sent back to the States to recover, unfortunately because of the angle of the bullet the scar tissue that developed made him lose a lot of mobility in his leg and he was given a medical discharge from the army. With physiotherapy he's gained back enough of the mobility to walk with a limp, although on bad days he still uses a cane.
For the past few months he's been living in Miami, Florida and enjoying his deployment pay that he'd saved up. His mother told him that Heath had come home, assuming that he'd want to know what was going on with his best friend and mentor – she doesn't know the truth behind his apparent obsession with the other man simply because he's afraid she would tell. As soon as he heard those words he began to pack his things to return home, thoughts of finally making good on all of the years of wanting and hoping; he was positive that while they were in the army together his friend had flirted back and although he went back and forth on whether this was a good plan or not he kept firm on the idea of walking up and telling the other everything.
roleplaying sample
“I promise to forgive you if you're terrible as long as you try. Besides you really only have to get through two dances, one with me and one with your daughter.” She replied with a smile at him. She wanted a tiny wedding, just them and a few friends, but would be fine with a huge reception. Her soon-to-be husband seemed like the type that didn't know what he was capable of and as a dance teacher she was a firm believer in the saying that anyone could dance; most people just never bothered to find their style so they just continued to believe that they couldn't, not everyone was able to master every style – or even more than one – but everyone could learn at least one. Besides she could even just teach him to sway with her to the music if that's what it came down to, she wouldn't mind at all. Winter in New York had been her favourite, all of the Christmas lights and the outdoor skating rinks, the stores all decked out for the holidays; it had always made her feel so glad to get the chance to see it. “It was my favourite season there, I used to just go home for Christmas eve and Christmas day and then hurry back so I could just wander about looking at everything!” It was kind of interesting to find that her fiance loved the winter just as much as she did, maybe him being older wasn't such a flaw.
The young woman smiled at him brightly. “You don't seem like one, usually I get a feeling about that sort of guy but I just ignore it... the only feelings I get from being here with you is excitement and a tad bit of awkwardness – but I think the second is just the situation.” She informed him, glad that he was so willing to put himself out like that. Her last boyfriend had been very secretive but expected her to share her every little thought while he kept all his to himself which had annoyed the heck out of her. Seb didn't seem like that type at all.
