Asher was what most would call an "accident" although his mother always swore that he was the best thing that had ever happened to her. She was young when she found out she was pregnant, only 18. She had met Asher's father through a friend. He was a high school dropout and he was two years older than Mina (Asher's mother). When Mina graduated they started a summer fling, about a month into it, Mina became pregnant. At first Robert (Asher's father) made promises of supporting his girlfriend but those promises soon fell through mainly due to his other relationship with drugs and alcohol.
Mina's parents were supportive towards their daughter but they made it very clear that Robert had to go. Mina rejected this idea and left her parent's home to live with Robert in a horrible little apartment that Asher would call home for the first ten years of his life. When Asher was born Mina fell in love, her son was her everything. Robert tried to support them financially for the first few years until he became so addicted to alcohol and various drugs that he stopped showing up to his job. This forced Mina to find a job, of course Asher couldn't remain on his own at the age of three so Mina asked her parents for help. They desperately missed their only daughter so they began to watch Asher frequently.
By the time Asher was five years old; his father has started to become physically abusive towards his mother. He had always been abusive mentally but it began to escalate dangerously. Asher never really got knocked around by his father although he was severely mentally abused and this caused him to have very low self-esteem. Asher's father had a tendency to come home totally wasted, on these frequent occasions he would yell at his son for hours. His mother told Asher never to say anything about it to anyone. Asher's mother took the abuse from her husband for years without saying a single word until the day he raised his hand to her son. Asher was being yelled at like usual when he decided to yell back, he knew that his father hurt his mother and he hated keeping it secret. He yelled at his father and told him he hated him. His father then hit him right in the face. Mina saw the whole thing and quickly grabbed her son and ran out the door.
She went to her parents and told them everything and they took her in with open arms. They went to the police and Asher's father went to jail for two years. When he got out they filed a restraining order against him and they have hardly seen him since. His mother is extremely important to him and he constantly feels like he needs to protect her. He hates any guy who mistreats women and he spends a lot of his time raising money for organizations that work to help abused women and children alongside his mother. Asher's biggest fear is that his father will try to do something to harm his mother. He worked as a resource teacher at the high school for a year and he did enjoy it. However, he realized that he had to follow his dream to work in pediatrics. Also during this time, he fell for a student of his, Dawn Carmichael. The two shared a heated kiss after he bailed her out of jail and things have been rather tense ever since. Now that they are both students, he wants to start over but he isn't quite sure how.
