something was always peaceful about the beach, especially in a place like manchester. the beach was a mere mile away from the rather large house that lucas called home, and it would have been more efficient to walk but lucas (as always) preferred to show off in his brand new car. his bright yellow mustang was souped up much to his liking, bringing out the inner douchebag that seemed to come out more often then not. living in a place like manchester was much different then the bright lights that los angeles had to offer, but it was a peaceful escape and a chance for lucas to reinvent himself in any way imaginable. in los angeles just about everyone had wealth, so you never had to deal with the social classes since everyone was on level playing ground but manchester was different. in manchester you had different classes, different cliques and lucas fit snugly into the preps.
the beach was the ideal place for lucas to go during the summer, often met with bikini clad and rather large breasted women, and often lucas would go only to be his typical self. being a good looking guy, lucas knew how to pick-up women and did so in a quick and efficient manner. the beach was the ideal place for him to do this - girls loved the beach and lucas loved the girls. he pulled on his rather short blue shorts and headed down the stairs of his house, grabbing his towel on the way out before making his way to the beach. although he would have much rather preferred to show off in his car, today he decided to go out for a run. he needed it. after the incident with jaylee he needed to let off some steam.
he jammed his ear buds in both ears before making his way toward his front door. "i'll be back." he said rather annoyed as he opened the large handle of his door. not waiting for a response, he left and broke out in a light jog. he had a lot on his mind and needed to get out and do what he did best: pick up girls. he chuckled to himself as he made his way down the street, passing house after house. he was aware he looked like a total douche, yet he couldn't of cared less. a good ten minutes later and he arrived to the beach, a sigh of relief came once his shoes touched the sand. surveying the field we sat his towel down and sat, trying to regain thought and clear his head. he yanked the ear buds out of his ear and sat there in silence, allowing the sound of the waves to overtake him. in the distance he spotted a girl, roughly around his age, parading in the water alone. without hesitation, lucas grabbed his things and made the trek toward the girl, careful not to scare her off. with his signature smile he greeted the girl, his hands in the air to indicate that he meant no harm. "nice night isn't it." he said with a smirk as he carefully surveyed the girl.

the sun was setting rather quickly in the distance and night fall was fast approaching. lucas gazed over at the girl and smirked as he made his way toward her, his hands again in the air to indicate no harm. lucas knew exactly what he was doing, particularly in this situation. he knew he caught her off-guard, especially since he was not acting like the particular tool that manchester viewed him as. the stories were public knowledge and it was safe to assume that she had heard them, so to stray away from them made those whispers look untrue. if he was to have his way with velouette he was going to have to show her that he is different, at least initially. it was like he was baiting the girl on false hope, carefully twisting his words to look like he was the innocent one, and that society judged him for whatever reason. it was a trick he learned from theo, a royal who had taken lucas under his wing in hope that he could one day be called into the royals. lucas stood up straight, his broad shoulders stuck out proudly as he turned his attention back toward the water. he dug one hand deep in his pocket before swiveling around to face the girl once more.
"it's a pleasure eh?" he inquired, the smirk growing bigger on his face as he looked over at the girl. he studied the girl for a moment noticing how surprisingly comfortable the girl seemed around lucas. "i don't believe a word of that." he said plainly, his eyes making eye contact with her once more. she seemed smarter then that. she knew lucas was a dirty lying pig, yet she pretended to show interest. why, lucas didn't know but he was determined to find out. he stood there for a moment in silence, observing as the girl tossed her keys and flip flops farther up the shore and let out a chuckle as she grew rather panicked after she had done so. he looked up as she spoke, the stars flickering in the distance. "i know you know me." he began his voice rather plain as he crouched down and drug his hand through the soft sand, the grains separating slowly between his fingers. "i'm not stupid." bam. he looked at her once more emotionless before flickering a quick half smile in her direction.

it there was one skill that lucas could consider himself a professional at was spotting bullshit when he seen it. he knew the rules, noting subtle choice words or body language to determine if someone was in fact telling the truth. he could attribute that to having a father who owned his own law firm, and growing up with lawyers his whole life. in many respects it made lucas the sarcastic douche bag that he was, because once he spotted a lie he "matter-of-factly" called them out, not once considering how rude he might have sounded. the only benefit the girl had going for her was the impending darkness, which would allow her to fade slowly into the darkness, making her lies much harder to notice. lucas knew he could have handled it in two ways: he could go along with her lies and make her feel as if she was coming out on top, or lucas could do what he always did and speak his mind without worry of what she had to say. choosing the later, lucas looked over at the girl once more, a coy smile perched on his face. "you're a cheerleader." he recalled, his voice just as serious as it was playful. "im sure you've had an opinion of me before you ever really seen me." and just like that, he stood a good six feet from the girl, the smile still visible in the dim light.
he studied the girl for a moment, his hands dug neatly into his pocket as he stole one last glance before the darkness would succumb both of them. she was cute - definitely fit in perfectly with the other cheerleaders and petite which lucas also really liked. something about her struck lucas as odd. she didn't seem like the innocent girl that she believed herself to be and lucas smiled as he tried to see that different side, slowly prodding her with words in hopes that it would come to light. "so tell me, what have you heard?" he inquired with a smirk, ignoring her comments as he continued to poke at the girl. lies or not, lucas had no intentions of charming her, instead opting to piss her off as much as he could. "unless you are like the other cheerleaders.." he said, turning around to face the water once more.
lucas knew that she had at least heard stories about him, especially since he had dated (very briefly) a few of the girls who made up the cheer squad, and his reputation on campus was undesirable amongst women, so he knew she at least heard something about him. but there he stood, face to face with a girl who claimed she knew nothing about him. "maybe what you heard were lies.." he said calmly, his own lie now escaping his lips. he hoped that the girl would believe his statement although he knew the chances of that were highly unlikely. if she knew him like he claimed she did, then that lie wouldn't hold up for more then a second. but maybe she would play the lying game with him, both lying to each other and telling each other what they wanted to hear. his eyes fixated on the water for a moment before turning to face the girl once more.

playing the role of villain was something lucas embraced, especially in situations like this. he looked up at the girl and smirked, his mind slowly interpreting the words that she spoke. something about velouette intrigued lucas. she wasn't like most of the girls that lucas met. she didn't fawn over him or acted instantly disgusted with him (mainly due to his reputation, which was true but nonetheless). instead she held a calm demeanor and seemed to be naive when it came to him. of course, lucas knew that this could have all been a game that velouette was playing but why lucas did not know. still, lucas was impressed that she seemed to be sucking up to him instead of being out right with her actions. this meant he needed to continue to prod her and try to get her true intentions, and luckily it was something that lucas prided himself in.
"handsome eh?" he began, a small smile formed on his lips as he locked eyes with the girl. "well, im flattered." he finished, his tone slightly sarcastic as we watched her lick her lips, the smile still visible on his face. what was velouette trying to do? she seemed unafraid of lucas, continually acting innocent and brushing off lucas' sarcastic and blunt demeanor. little did she know doing this only kept lucas entertained and slightly interesting. she was definitely attractive and sure enough the type of girl lucas went for, but he wanted her to cut the act. he laughed as she said she was like the other cheerleaders, mainly because lucas knew that she was nothing like them.
lucas had spent a lot of time around the cheerleaders, especially since he dated Hayley for a brief moment. he knew of velouette, never officially getting a chance to meet her. from initial glance she appeared quiet and not as stuck-up as her teammates had. most of them knew lucas and didn't exactly have the ideal experience with him. he knew they talked frequently about him and he doubted it was anything positive. "because i've seen you at practice before." he spoke, his voice steady. "you seemed different which is why i thought you'd tell me the truth. but i guess not." he continued to prod at the girl, not allowing her to take control of the conversation or change the subject. he wanted to know if she was going to tell him what he already knew - to see if maybe she was different then the bitches she called "teammates". "besides. who are you trying to impress?"
lucas watched in silence as the girl thought, his mind slowly drifting back toward the water. the sky had dimmed even more and darkness surrounded the two. he laughed as she spoke. "i am very much a prep." he exclaimed, his voice raising slightly out of irritation. how dare she question his popularity? technically lucas was a prep by default, his father owning one of maryland's largest law firms, but he was on the rise of becoming a royal, especially since his best friend was a part of the ever so exclusive group. lucas felt insulted that she ever bothered to question him on his social status, mainly because lucas put so much effort into maintaining his reputation. lucas never associated himself with anyone who wasn't in the same social class or at least one of the elites, so to question him angered him. "if you were like the other cheerleaders, you would have already knew that."

the tension between the two was amusing enough for lucas to want to continue. he didn't mean much harm, in fact to lucas it was merely friendly conversation. being sarcastic and standoffish were two things that lucas regularly did and everyone else had to adapt to that, besides he didn't mean anything by it. rather then playing her little game, lucas knew that if he wanted answers he was going to have to demand them. lucas looked at the girl and nodded slightly, his soft eyes scanning her face for any sign of weakness. lucas often detected weakness, and like a lion to a gazelle, he made his move and refused to let go. with velouette it was different. he wanted to believe that she was lying, but he had no proof. despite her uneasiness in the situation, she held her composure fairly well. perhaps her uneasiness was due to lucas being as overbearing as he was?
"well, you aren't so bad yourself." he said, a coy smirk forming through his lips as he made his way closer to the girl. he had to admit, something about velouette intrigued him especially because she wasn't really giving any indication of who she was. she seemed like an observer - a girl who would see everything but wouldn't exactly respond to everything. lucas knew if he continued to prod at the girl she would eventually crack, although what the girl said next prompted lucas to rethink his game plan. was she trying to seduce him? lucas dug one of his hands into his pocket and twisted out toward the water once more, his mind racing rather quickly as he pieced together his next response. "if you were trying to impress me.." he began, the words leaving his lips slowly like he was purposefully dragging it out. "you could come over. we could watch a movie, i could make you something to eat.."
lucas finished speaking, his game plan completely changed. if the girl wanted to impress him, lucas was going to have to retool his game plan to fit the current situation. he knew the possibility of this response backfiring on him, but he didn't seem to care. as much of a tool lucas was, he didn't lack much confidence. he knew he was a good looking man, and a man of good stature. if velouette didn't want to come over, then he could simply find someone who would. of course dinner and a movie was not truly in his plans, he had one thing in mind, but again...sacrafices had to be made. he felt as if he angered the girl a bit, but knew he needed to keep control of the situation. "or we could just sit here." he said, hating himself almost immediately for giving her a way out.
