POPULARS
the royals
the royals rule the school. they are gorgeous, rich, fashionable, and seem to get away with anything and everything. royals are incredibly involved with their social status. you're not going to find any 'selfless and kind' royals. the only way they got to the place they are now? being cunning, manipulative brats - that's how. the royals are rather exclusive, so there are only a select few that ride with them. you can't necessarily just become a royal. it's by invitation only. royals set trends, ruin reputations, and basically make life the equivalent of a living hell to those that don't obey their every wish. the royals are either feared, hated, admired, or envied by everyone that attends manchester high school. royals date royals. royals befriend royals. royals also want to drag down other royals. manchester prep is the royal's realm, and they reserve the right to change any of their rules. of course, they're always looking for new members worthy enough, but they're very... picky eaters, if you catch my drift. only a few actually fit the bill. most of the royals do the dirty work for the 'it girl', while she's there to make the decisions and look pretty. our queen bee is currently desiree sinclair.
canons and promotions only.
the preps
alright, everyone knows the preps. they are right under the royals in the social standing and they like to keep it that way. these mainly consist of the kids that have the looks, and the money, and the brains. you've got your ivy league bound kids, as well as hollywood bound kids. not all preps are complete snobs, but a good portion of them are. normally they do more "sophisticated" things than other students - like instead of playing football or going to a friend's house they're playing tennis, golf, having memberships to country clubs and playing violin or piano. of course, that doesn't mean all of them do these things, but a good portion of them have that 'superior brainiac air' to them. most preps have some kind of musical or artistic talent. they are usually wealthy, and their fashion is typically brand name - never knockoff.

the jocks
first off, let's get something straight. there is a huge difference between a jock and an athlete, but the two are typically grouped together. most sports teams are filled with jocks, unless you've been grouped into one of the less popular groups. jocks have a tendency to abuse their popularity and use it to beat down on the neutrals and rejects. these guys (and girls) will have people falling at their feet and boosting their ego higher over their sports skills. they have plenty of lovers and make sure they only associate themselves with the popular crowd. jocks are typically interested in their social status, some of them more than others. after all, once you're already up there, why would you want to tarnish your perfect reputation?

the cheerleaders
what high school is complete without cheerleaders? none, i tell you, none! these are the girls that every guy wants to get with... along with the royals, but these gals (and the occasional guy) don't bother themselves with the royals. the majority of them at least aren't afraid of the royals, and some of them go so far as to despise the royals. most cheerleaders only date in the popular crowd, but you do have the few that decide to date around in the other cliques for whatever reason. you'll never catch a cheerleader alive with any of the rejects. with their catchy cheers and short skirts, cheerleaders are manipulative and will get what they want when they want it. most of them wear their cheer uniform in school, but outside school, you can catch them in some of the shortest skirts and lowest cut tops known to man. the guys of the squad are a bit more reserved than the ladies and dress more casually in and out of school. you want to avoid crossing this clique - they're almost as ruthless as the blogger when it comes to ruining lives. and once you're kicked off the squad, you're back with the rejects. you quit? you're in the lower realms of the neutrals. our head cheerleader is currently hayley kessler.

NEUTRALS
the wannabes
ah, the wannabes. as the name so clearly states, the wannabes wanna be something they're not. they're the highest ranking neutrals, but they think they are (or should be) much more royal than that. wannabes desperately want to be a part of the populars. some of them are close, and some of them are plain annoying. these kids will do anything for the populars. to them, they're gods. however, unless they're bossing them around, the populars don't usually give the wannabes the time of day. the wannabes will typically try to act cool by bullying lower ranking neutrals or rejects. all the other neutrals either pity them or hate them, but the wannabes don't mind - they're used to haters. if and when they become a popular, all the neutrals who doubted them will surely pay. wannabes typically try to start trends, but they seldom come through as successful. much like preps, they wear brand name clothes and act superior.

the drifters
the drifters... well... they drift! according to merriam-webster's dictionary, drifting is an aimless course, a gradual shift, or a steady sweep and flow along a spatial course. the drifters at manchester prep drift from clique to clique. drifters aren't really classified as one specific clique, but a bunch of misfit people that flow to different cliques without any preference. drifters are considered to be neutral, but they do have their in's and out's to the popular crowd and the rejects as well. opinions are constantly changing about the drifters. i guess you could say they're unique, but not necessarily. most of them are good at everything but great at nothing. their aimless courses tend to entertain them, and the drifters generally don't care what clique they're placed into.

the jokers
jokers are full of jokes, usually funny with the occasional pun or two thrown in. they are typically very confident people, and don't really care what anyone thinks of them. the jokers are definitely trouble makers and absolutely love pulling pranks and the like. jokers have a problem following the rules, and are often immature. they do not often respect authorities, and for this reason, they are usually on a first name basis with the principal. the jokers absolutely love attention. sometimes, they achieve attention without even meaning to. after you practice a habit for so long, it becomes a part of you, right? surprisingly, jokers are kind of popular, and they can make anyone laugh. girls usually crush on them mainly because of their humorous, charming natures. the nerds typically disregard them as douchebaggy attention whores, but the jokers are just trying to make life more interesting! a very slight majority of the jokers are of the male gender, but there are quite a few girls as well.

the band geeks
band geeks are obviously a part of manchester's band. band is their entire life, and if it isn't, then it's a close second. band is a drug in their mind, and the thought constantly festers in their minds. band geeks can either be extremely cool or the exact opposite. usually, they're a quirky bunch, but as aforementioned, they can be incredibly talented and fun-loving people. band geeks usually have extreme school spirit and spend a lot of time in the band room. during the fall, they are always at the school due to the constant after school practices and home games. of course, some of these characters will be the orch dorks or choir queers. band geeks generally date within the neutrals and rejects, hum tunes, are constantly moving, and defend their fellow band geeks. band geeks worship the band director, and can play one or more instruments.
original characters and canons accepted.
the drama geeks
drama geeks are similar to band geeks, but not quite identical. drama geeks absolutely adore the theatre. it's their life's true calling. they are usually random, loud, and often burst out into song. drama geeks love the theatre because, essentially, it's their kingdom. drama geeks feel at home there, and it's where they can share their passion for the art with their peers, parents, and friends. drama geeks insist on auditioning for every single school production. those who reside in this category but hate the performance aspect of it are often behind the scenes painting sets and directing the light fixtures. drama geeks worship their director, and they're really one big family unless someone stole so and so's lead role, and then it's war. even then, the anger doesn't last forever. drama geeks have tons of inside jokes together, and they typically hang out outside of their drama class as well. they usually obsess over broadway plays and musicals as well, and have stars in their eyes and big plans for the future.

the nerds
oh, the nerds! nerds are the highly intelligent students of manchester high school. receiving a "b" on a test is like the apocalypse, and santa claus forbid they ever find an "a-" on their final report card. nerds are often picked on because of their intelligence. a nerd can be extremely cool or extremely annoying. it depends ont he nerd. some nerds are extremely trivial, and some are simply book smart. nerds are also very literate and are constantly researching and reading things outside of school. most nerds are slightly socially awkward and quiet, but there are those odd few who love to talk to people between studying for the science exam in three weeks and doing a project two months before it's due. nerds like to avoid drama, and they don't often date because school is their one and only priority. most nerds are goody-two-shoes, teacher's pets and book worms. with that being said, it's very easy to say most nerds are indeed virgins. most of them lack in the fashion department.

REJECTS
the loners
loners aren’t too specific other than the fact that they prefer to be by themselves. whether they were put there and simply can’t get out or they enjoy their own company, loners don’t have a huge problem being alone. they don’t get a ton of negative attention compared to some of the other rejects, and loners generally have to act out to get a lot of attention. a lot of the loners simply have social problems or have been dealt a bad hand in life, and can’t do anything to change that. loners really don’t look for anyone to hang out with… because, well, that’s fairly obvious. these guys and gals tend to tackle their problems mainly on their own.
original characters and canons accepted.
the punks
punks are free thinkers, attention-getters, and often involved in some kind of music. they tend to listen to punk rock music and be very rebellious, and very openly disagree with the current ‘social ladder’ that has been set in stone at manchester. punks are very openly individual and do what they want to do, not caring one tiny bit about what anyone thinks about them. they don’t crave attention but often get it because of their rebellious attitudes. at times they can be mistaken as scene kids due to sometimes loud hair colors and creative make up. of course older generations would refer to some of them as goths and granted a few of them do enjoy their black clothing but here we call them punks although that doesn’t mean much to them. say what you will, this group of rebels couldn't care less.

the stoners
the stoners. these are the typical kids you see smoking pot under the bleachers, smoking pot behind the dumpsters, smoking pot in the bathrooms during class, smoking pot… okay, pretty much everywhere. the stoners are typically introverted and mind their own business, but some are obnoxious and seek attention. stoners show up at parties often, usually for one reason – can you guess what it is? smoke pot! wonderful, we’re on the same page. stoners usually don’t do too well grade-wise in school but don’t present a problem in the classroom. stoners are often made fun of but don’t usually do much to receive this attention.

the ex-populars
ladies and gentleman, meet the absolute bottom of the food chain at manchester prep. ex-populars receive a lot of the sharp end of the stick. these can be previous royals, preps, jocks, or cheerleaders that used to have quite some power in the food chain, but have been brought down. this can happen for one of several reasons. the most common is that the royals knocked them down. because the royals have such the upper hand in almost everything that goes on in manchester, they are very quick to decide someone isn’t worthy of their current position and knock them right off. otherwise, these ex-populars have done something to earn themselves straight into reject land. a lot of ex-populars have some vengeful feelings towards the populars, or at least want to get back up into the higher ranking areas of manchester. the ex-populars get a lot of crap from the populars on a daily basis. in fact, the populars target the ex-populars specifically than the other rejects, for one purpose and one purpose only - revenge.

STRANGERS
the transfers
transfer students. the definition is pretty self-explanatory. transfer students came from another school recently, or perhaps began school from being home schooled all their lives. the bottom line is, they've never attended manchester, and they're shiny new toys for the populars, neutrals, and rejects to fight over. transfer students typically crave one thing - acceptance. they don't stay "new" to the school very long before a clique invites them in. ultimately, their fate lies in their own hands, but one wrong move and they could very well land in the rejects because they pissed off a popular. transfers can only stay transfers for a maximum of two months. if your character has not been sorted into a clique by that time, an administrator will contact you and ask you to choose a clique for your character.

the wallflowers
the wallflowers don't always make a conscious effort to stay invisible. introverted and often "socially awkward", wallflowers see all know all, and don't say a single word. there isn't really anything about a wallflower that catches the attention of other cliques. a handful of the wallflower population craves to be noticed, but a majority of them are content with fading into their surroundings. it is said that wallflowers are quite the interesting crowd once you manage to make them speak, but many of the manchester prep students don't care enough to put in the effort. except the occasional popular looking to recruit one. wallflowers differ from loners because they separate themselves willingly rather than being disregarded.

MISCELLANEOUS
the locals
the locals no longer attend high school and aren’t considered graduates anymore, either. most of the locals are in their late twenties to early forties, but there is some fluctuation between the age range. locals work to pay for their home’s mortgage, hate their jobs, have children,

the college students
college students have survived high school. their ranking in the manchester prep monarchy no longer matters, and the fact dawns upon them pretty quick. college students don’t usually understand how much different the real world is compared to their life as a high school student. they struggle to be accepted into colleges, and survive college. they don’t have a set style or personality. remains of their high school facades may have stuck, or they could have grown a pair and become mature individuals. there are students who love to party, get wasted, and live life to the fullest, and then there is also their polar opposite crowd. others are mature, ready to face college, and want to actually start their lives as adults. college students strive to move out or intend to stay in their mother’s basement until they’re forty. whatever they choose for themselves is completely at their digression.
original characters and canons accepted.
the teachers[/b]
yes, teachers are a key part of high school. they do teach the subjects, after all. there are some teachers who are completely aware of the harsh monarchy that has been constructed in the halls of manchester prep, but for the most part, they are extremely oblivious to all the clique-related fantasies. teachers are often viewed as lame, so their standings at manchester aren’t exactly high unless you’re the band director or some hot english teacher that all the underclassmen drool over. the teachers are kind of a family in their own, but there is in fact teacher drama. haven’t you heard to scandal about who broke the copy machine in the teacher’s lounge? no? what about the debate about who should receive the next installations of smart boards? students view these controversial topics as boring, but as a teacher, you can’t help but be interested in them. most teachers are in their late thirties or early forties, but there are a few teachers who are privileged enough to teacher in their early twenties as well.
