That wasn’t to say her family was sinking into the depths of poverty, but they definitely weren’t rolling around in cash either. Her parents worked average hours at good jobs and brought in an income that allowed them to live comfortably and without worry that the bills would pile up. Shopping was an affordable luxury, and because the eighteen year old owned a credit card, she didn’t have to think about restraining herself to buying a particular amount of items. Nevertheless, she liked to show that she was responsible with her money since she rather not be deprived of her allowance and forced to take up a lame part time job at a filthy fast food joint because she decided to test her parents’ patience. As a result, Hales bided her time and saved up her cash until she caught news of a sale at Victoria’s Secret, and that naturally meant that it was the right time for her to go out and spoil herself a bit. It was silly, but even for something as simple as shopping, she had a plan. In order to make sure she had the widest selection of styles and products to choose from, she had to arrive earlier than the typical shopper. The day of the sale, she woke up in a timely manner instead of rolling around in bed and wasting the morning away. She chose a comfortable outfit consisting of a white sundress and a pair of heels, and she was at the mall in no time. Breakfast could wait until after she finished hoarding up on clothing, perfume, and accessories at the sale. The store was predictably heavy with the scent of perfumes, and Hayley was pleased to see that she had succeeded at beating any sort of rush hour. But then came the challenge of speedily picking what she wanted in order to get out quickly to avoid long lines, so instead of taking her time sifting through styles and trying out the variety of perfumes on display, she grabbed a variety of clothes and undergarments that suited her preferences and were in style, as well as a few bottles of perfume that seemed to smell pleasant from a distance. While the cashier was kept busy ringing up her purchases, she snagged a few accessories and added them to the pile, giving herself a mental congratulations on managing to finish her shopping in under an hour. Most girls liked to take their time shopping, but Hayley simply never liked dilly dallying among large crowds of noisy people who were shoving at each other to viciously grab at material things. There were times when she would go to the mall and drift about, window shopping and purchasing an article of clothing or two, but sales were events that required more fight than she was willing to go through. It felt far more relaxing for her to just proudly tote around her shopping bags while she visited a few other stores, enjoying her well-deserved shopping binge. With her bags in arm, she was prepared to give the store a farewell-for-now glance, but she paused when she saw someone who seemed familiar. It took a few seconds for her to recognise her fellow teammate, Velouette, and when she did, she was tempted to leave before she was spotted. It wasn’t as if she hated the younger girl considering she found it amusing to tease her, but the idea of sticking around to gossip senselessly seemed troublesome. But she had all of the summer to waste, so really, what was spending a little bit of time hanging out with a girl she technically had to trust for her team’s sake anyways? Allowing a friendly smile to form on her lips, she approached her fellow cheerleader and greeted, "Hey, Velouette! I didn’t think I’d see you here!" |
