life
Michelle and Samuel were rather lucky to have found each other, all in all. They both were quiet, reserved types of people who liked alone time and intellect. Neither of them had ever dated much, preferring the company of books to the drama of bedroom antics. So when mutual friends set them up on a blind date in their senior year of college, neither one expected a whole lot. But they had a lot in common. Both preferred 50’s music to that of their generation, both preferred a quiet calm night over a party, and both were voracious readers with a thirst for knowledge. They dated casually, taking things slowly and cautiously despite the fact that it was obvious they were meant to be. Finally, three years after graduation, Sam proposed. Michelle said yes. They had a small wedding and settled down in Portland, both acquiring jobs as book reviewers and copy editors at a small publishing house.
Before long they decided to have children. It was then that Jamie’s older brother was born. Two short years later came Jamie. Both boys were brought up to be neat, quiet, and thoughtful. They were read to constantly, and came to love books at an early age. Jamie’s older brother also adopted his parent’s love for class and schoolwork, while Jamie himself found it boring and always preferred to learn things on his own. This has always frustrated his parents to no end, as they find education very important. Because of this different, Jamie’s parents were never shy about applauding Jamie’s brother for his accomplishments while scolding Jamie for being so disrespectful of school. Jamie, frustrated because he really was capable of learning on his own, distanced himself from his brother and parents and kept to himself.
When school started, Jamie had a hard time making friends. He studied the kids around him carefully, coming to understand what people were like and how they worked. Still, the young man was mostly quiet and into his books until he finally fell into a few friendships. He’s keep to those friends pretty much exclusively and when high school rolled around, he never really fit into a specific category. Instead, he is mostly a loner, observing and enjoying the few close friends he has. As he’s gotten older, Jamie has become more anti-authority. Although he is level-headed and likes to avoid conflict, he also hates the idea that everyone has to be ‘normal’ which is partially why you may think he is a punk, with his wide slew of tattoos and a cigarette hanging from his mouth.
