life
jeremiah, as a child, was born in the city of los angeles by a terrified seventeen-year-old mother that had run away with her boyfriend when she had gotten pregnant. after jeremiah was a few months old, his father had left their already broken family, leaving his mom alone and desperate. jeremiah’s mother began to get worse, drinking her sorrows away and sometimes forgetting to feed her child, as they lived on his mother’s little paycheck as a waitress and ate macaroni and cheese from a box. his mother was not abusive, just sometimes neglecting, and a young girl that was just scared. she cared about jeremiah, but couldn’t handle the responsibility and still acted like a child. after his mom got cozy with men after men on the couch of their one-bedroom apartment, she finally found another man that seemed to convince his drunken mother to abandon five-year-old jeremiah and start a new life together.
though he can hardly remember his mother now, he can still remember how heartbroken he was when his mother had driven him off to the nearest foster care facility and had signed the papers to give him up. he can distinctly remember looking into her blue eyes, his terrified and confused, as he was taken away. his younger years was spent getting shipped off from house to house and having to attend dozens of elementary schools. growing up in a constantly moving world was difficult, especially since growing attached to his foster parents was a prevalent problem for him. he had loving families, though jeremiah never seemed to be quite what they were looking for. it was an understatement to say, as a child, all he ever wanted was a family.
finally, at age ten, he was adopted by his foster family of two years, a happy family of joseph and sarah blair, who could not conceive another child due to their complications with jeremiah’s older brother elijah’s birth. though he sometimes had worries that as an adopted child, he could never be loved as much as his older brother elijah, he had a good family, who had treated him as an equal despite his insecurities. his new family in ocean city was extremely wealthy, his father owning several franchises of sporting goods shops across the country, and his mom ran a little boutique in the side of town. he had adopted the last name blair, becoming a permanent part of the family, getting close to his adopted mother, father, and brother.
though he had not had a childhood that many have had, he had never quite let it impact his life. his childhood was not bad, just different and sometimes difficult, but truly shaped him to what he was today. when he was nine, he began to prolifically play sports ranging from baseball, football, volleyball with his older brother and his father. he had become an addict to sports, joining the football team during the fall season, and the baseball team during spring in high school. being a team player, he was always one to help out a friend in need, and he would never bail on his friends. because he had been abandoned as a child, he had become strongly dedicated and loyal to his friends and family.
yet, life in the fast lane began to get into his head, society was shaping him into a jock – one that was superficial, confident, cocky, and getting girls was his main aim. he liked being around girls, always liked being a part of something bigger, having a lot of friends and not feeling so alone. jeremiah is deathly afraid of being alone, an autophobic, and can tend to get a little possessive, and easily angered. he may seem overly confident on the outside, but on the inside, he’s terrified of the people he loves leaving him again.

he watched her carefully, his gaze almost analytical, like a scientist, studying the behavior of an animal or some sort. he felt a little silly comparing her to an animal, but he figured that he should understand how she was feeling, the little body language she was giving to him in exchange for the little verbal expression. he probably wouldn’t say anything about it, but alex noticed – he noticed the reluctance, the slight fear in her eyes as she reached out to take his hand. the pause, the vulnerability, the tension in the air that was undeniable. his breath caught, and he suddenly was in fear whether she would take her hand back, disregard his attempt to fix their seemingly broken (was it really broken?) friendship. it was symbolic, almost. would she take his hand so they could get through and patch whatever had gone wrong in their friendship? or would she pull back and leave him behind with only memories to spare?
alex breathed a sigh of relief the minute her hand took his, as he gently helped her up off her seat. her touch was brief, her hand leaving his immediately, and suddenly he got the feeling that she wasn’t very comfortable with physical contact with him – no matter how casual the contact had been. it was to be expected, he suddenly realized, she had kissed him and kissing was certainly a physical contact that could’ve alluded to just taking a hand. another glance at velouette told alex that she had somewhat recovered from whatever hesitation that had plagued her earlier. a half-smile was in place of that somewhat fearful look in her eyes just merely moments ago. "where are we headed to?"
he looked around the spa, his vision focusing on the door ahead of him. turning back, he gave vel a smile. “i was thinking just a simple walk around the lake, nothing big,” alex said, leading the way to the door. one small push opened the glass door to a bright light and the deep blue of the lake outside. it was such a beautiful day that a lot of the hogwarts students were spending the day outside and socializing with their friends along the shore, but frankly, none of that made a difference on alex. he figured that a nice stroll in the fresh air would clear both their minds and maybe actually get some talking done.
suddenly, as they stepped out of the spa and onto the pathway that circled around the very large lake, he felt like a little eleven-year-old boy again, trying to figure out how to talk to a girl, yet getting over the idea that girls had cooties. he stuffed his hands in his pockets, clearing his throat as to trying to figure out how to bring out the subject in the most efficient way possible. normally, he wouldn’t have trouble finding words or approaching a situation, but how could you ask your best friend why she kissed you without it being awkward? then it hit him that there was no way the subject could not be awkward.
“why did you do it?” he finally asked, his voice strained. “why did you kiss me?”
