life
molly was born a new years baby to jim and rachel haralson. jim had one child before, michael, whom rachel had adopted when they got married. it was rachel's first baby. this holding true, rachel was thrilled to have a baby girl. already a stay at home mom while jim worked at a car factory, rachel stayed with her newborn and her five year old son and maintained their household. she would fix her kids lunches and take them to the park, tuck them in at night and read them bedtime stories. molly and michael were never extremely close, but they got along well and bickered less than most siblings.
childhood was good to molly, full of plenty of good memories and learning experiences. sure, bad things happened, but she was impervious to them. however, not long after michael moved out and molly started her eighth grade year. it was getting harder and harder for rachel to hide her husband's alcoholism, which was not as bad in recent years, but had taken a sudden turn for the worst. jim would stay out late at bars and come home stumbling all over the place, and rachel would have to try her best to hide it from molly, who was already preparing for high school at that point. she'd take jim to bed and made sure he stayed in there until he fell asleep, trying to hide from molly that their family had cracks in its polished surface. when molly was a freshman in high school, jim's drinking got worse. he was never an extremely violent drunk, but as time grew on he'd raise a hand or two to rachel. she was never seriously injured physically, but it was becoming clearer that she wasn't going to be able to hold the family together much longer.
by molly's sophomore year, rachel had filed for divorce to get away from her husband, who had lost his job and refused to help support their little family. he got more violent at that time, and rachel moved her daughter to maryland at the beginning of her senior year, when the divorce was finalized. they stayed with family until molly graduated, and molly took a year off to help her mother with buying a house. she helped her mother move in a year and a half later, then set out to the local community college. she studied veterinary medicine for a little while, until at twenty five, she had received the news that her father had died of a heart attack. grief-stricken, molly dropped out of school to be with her mother, her family and the support of her friends. she toyed with the idea of going back to school while she got a job in retail to help support herself, but the passion wasn't there anymore. she saved to buy her own apartment, moved out of her mother's house and got a new job as a yoga instructor at the local gym, which paid better than her job in retail did. so she wouldn't get lonely, she bought herself a dog named boo, after one of her dad's favorite songs, and has been going strong ever since.
