[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: transparent; border: #transparent solid 15px; width: 400px; padding: 10 5 10 10px;] baby you light up my world like nobody else The salt air tasted bitter in the mans mouth, as the wind sent it dancing around him. His shoes sinking the sand deeper into the ground with every step, his eyes searching over the empty dark waves, the night sky looming above. A light sigh fell from the mans lips as his hands sank deep into his pockets, his feet stopping for a moment, taking a pause next to the life guard stand. The beach was deserted, after all it was one in the morning, however it was just the way the tall man liked it. After all, he had become use to the quiet also known as loneliness. It wasn't that he was a depressed man who hated people or didn't get along with them, however school was all about cliques and lines, lines that Jackson had crossed, causing him to fall from grace.
It had been last year when Jackson lost his top. He hadn't meant to loose control, after all he had been dealing it for many years, however he couldn't live the lie any more. Jackson had been in the popular click, he hung out with the jock and the other "cool kids" of the school. He was on top of the world, he had it all, the girls, the sports, the friends, however it was a lie. Being in a clique meant you couldn't talk to those beneath you, be a person Jackson wasn't. For a long time he went with it. He hung out, dealt with the others teasing the less popular groups, the jokes, the harassment they all cause, he had even join in it at first. In fact, his sophomore year, when he was a bit more naive and a jerk, he was one of the leaders. Feeling he had to punk other kids, cause them pain, to gain status. He had caused on of the biggest pranks on some poor sucker that year. It had been so humiliating that the kid exchanged school and Jackson firmly believes its what put him over the top to gain acceptance. However, as Jackson grew up he quickly learned he didn't want to be that kind of person, a bully. Causing others pain, only to gain the respect of dishonest people that would cut you out in one fell swoop.
Closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, Jackson memory flew back to that day in the boys locker room. It had started out a day like any other, Jackson moving through the motions, acting like everything was cool and fun, however the anger was building up inside of him. The guys had spent all of gym teasing this one kid, a nerd. Jackson had mostly stood in the background, no need to join when your already at the top, and watched. However as the boys got ready for their showers, Jackson couldn't stand by any more. As the boys hid the other kids clothing and started to corner him, snapping him with towels, Jackson stepped in. He knew from the moment he opened his mouth it was all over, his ties would be cut before lunch. There was no standing up, no back talking in the populars. You had your leaders and you followed the rules. You didn't associate with people beneath you and you sure as hell didn't spoil your friends fun in an attempt to save a kid. Few punches later and a black eye, Jackson was shunned from the populars, it didn't even take an hour for the word to spread and the eyes to glance in his direction as he walked down the hall. It didn't matter who it was, he was not the bottom of the bottom. The nerds wanted nothing to do with him, the loners, the jocks. He had done the one thing you didn't do in a food chain like the one at the school and that was stand up to someone.
Yep that's the very moment that lead Jackson here, to an empty beach, quiet and full or darkness. One quick moment of opening his mouth and allowing two words to fall from it. Sad part was, Jackson never regretted it and he knew he never would. In fact he had in some way become a vigilante for the school, stepping in any time he saw a kid being bullied. It didn't seem to help his reputation in either direction, in fact it just made him more and more of a social leopard, but he just told himself "one more year, one more year and it would all be over."
Shuffling his shoes in the sand, Jackson started to make his way closer to the water. When he was only a few feet away, he moved to sit down in the sand, allowing his butt to sink down, his legs up, resting his arms on them as his eyes watched the waves come onto shore before racing back out. If only life could be as quick and simple, a sweep in and a rush out, picking up the important things and leaving. Instead it was more like trying to send a boulder out to sea, almost impossible.

Everything looked so lovely in the moonlight. It was cooler, there weren't any annoying screechy girls and the stars were out and that was why she was here that evening. Imogen had always had a fascination with astronomy, ever since she was a little girl and she'd made no excuses; stars were pretty. She'd always been a science super star, always entering into science fairs when she was in elementary school and she'd won first prize with her working model of the solar system.
It wasn't often that she got to see the stars here in Ocean City what with all the light pollution, car fumes and stuff but tonight, there had been a break in the clouds and they shone rather brightly. In fact, she'd quite lost track of time. Had she been aware that it had been so late, she probably would have been in bed because if her parents knew she was out, they'd flip their shit. Or something. Imogen was a good girl, she'd never disobeyed orders or gotten grounded so she was going to have to do some cat burglar-esque moves to get into her house this morning.
Laying flat on her back, her long blonde hair was left loose, the cool sea breeze tugging at the loose fabric of her bretton striped t-shirt that she'd paired with a pair of denim cut-offs and old, battered Converse that she'd since removed. In her pale hands, she held her iPhone and she was using the star chart app to try and match the little bright dots into the constellations that they formed. It wasn't a terribly popular application and she put it down to all of the coloured squiggles and co-ordinates that she knew confused most people. Most people confused her, which was why she found solace in technology, maths and science. They'd never let her down since.
Sliding the pad of an index finger down the screen, she rotated the phone, jiggling it a little bit as she held it up against the sky, smiling as she saw Cassiopeia. Ah, Cassiopeia. Now that had been a quite a fall from grace indeed. She was a queen who had boasted about her unrivalled beauty. Literally. The silly woman would not just shut up. She bragged about how pretty she and her daughter Andromeda was until Poseidon had has enough and the only way she could appease the sea gods was by sacrificing her daughter.
So she did. Cassiopeia had chained Andromeda to the rocks and left her there so a sea monster could devour her but Peruses had effectively got wind of the poor girl's situation, swept in, killed the monster and got the girl. That had annoyed Poseidon that Cassiopeia and got away scot free and decided that it wasn't fair that she escape punishment. As a result, he tied her to a chair in the Heavens but upside down so she'd spent eternity with her skirt around her shoulders. The Ancient Greeks really could discipline, she'd give them that.
But speaking of falls from grace.
Hearing a rustle, Imogen perked up, arching an eyebrow as she hauled herself up to squint into the darkness to make out an outline of a person. Weird. Here she was, minding her own business and thinking that she had the place to herself. And the one day that she wasn't wearing any make up. Aces.
Sliding her phone back into the pocket of her shorts, she quietly got up, grabbed her shoes and made a slow pass over to the figure. He seemed familiar. Then again, she didn't really go out of her way to make friends so she could have seen the boy's face a million and one times and never learnt his name. Hell, for all she knew, he could be in a few of her classes. Oh no, she did know him! She'd heard something about him sticking up for someone. She didn't know who for or what he'd done or the circumstances because she'd been eating her lunch outside, by herself, as usual.
Without warning, she dropped her shoes and plonked herself down next to Jackson and pulled her bare knees into her chest, looking out onto the water that lazily lapped at the shore. Imogen was invisible, she made a point to do so and she was known by a few as "that brainy chick" because she made some extra cash tutoring a few delinquents after school.
"Rough day?" Imogen asked softly, placing her chin on her knees and shifting a little to blink at him before offering a smile. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: transparent; border: #transparent solid 15px; width: 400px; padding: 10 5 10 10px;] baby you light up my world like nobody else The moon danced in the reflection of the waves, the stars bright dancing along with it. Watching them the man sat there in the sad, the summer heat and the nights wind blowing around him, the tiny grains of sand lifting up to dance around him, getting into his hair and all over his cloths. Most of the time Jackson would have been annoyed by such an action, not caring for being dirty or sandy, however he was to tired to be petty on such a night, not to mention it didn't matter if he got all sandy and dirty. He was wearing the same cloths he had been wearing all day since he hadn't had time to change when he was at home.
When Jackson had arrived home his parents were in the middle of a fight and were happy to include him. It didn't take long for the young man to turn right back around and head back out of the house. He wasn't in the mood for another night such of that. It wasn't that his parents fought often or that he fought with his parents often, however it was enough that he couldn't take another night of it. Not so soon after the last one. Grabbing a few things Jackson has headed out of the house and spent the rest of the night walking around town and eating at a small diner. He watched as other families spent time together and thought about how his parents had no clue about anything that was going on his life. They didn't know that he was no longer dating his long time girlfriends, that he was no longer one of the jocks, that he had been chased off the football team, nor did they know about the incident in the locker room or the one that followed after that same day. As if everyone hadn't heard about it by lunch, Jackson also stood up for another kid who was getting a chocolate milk to the head, that was probably the topper to his statues. It was a more open scene, one that couldn't be swept under the carpet if people wished, however Jackson didn't care, he did what he did for a reason, so he didn't want people making it disappear.
Moving a hand to his hair he brushed the sand out of it, before letting out a soft sigh. The night was beautiful and although it was hot and dark, he preferred this to a day in the sun. The moon was like a flashlight the gods where shining down on him. It had taken his eyes a short while to adjust to the darkness, however now that they were use to it, Jackson was able to watch the crabs coming out of their holes, doing their bidding before people returned shortly for another day at the beach. He watched as a few looming sea gulls searched for their food. It was clear they had not wanted to fight the other for their dinner, but instead waited till most of the others were gone, before searching for scraps.
As Jacksons eyes turned to the water, he watched as the waves pushed seaweed, which was sure to be caring small animals and organisms to land. He watched as the night took over, with all of its glory. So many people feared the dark, assuming all bad things happened during that time, however it was so beautiful. He preferred the silence and loneliness that came with the night, over the bright sun, hot heat, and people that came with the day. Jackson was a man who liked to be alone and never fought the issue that he got to be that way so often. Instead he took peace in it and pleasure in the solicited.
Jackson was half out of it, from being so tired. He probably could have gone home by now, after all his parents were sure to be asleep, however he didn't get a chance to dwell on such a thought before he heard someone joining him. Peering out of the corner of his eye Jackson watched the girl for a moment before returning his attention to the water. There was a long silence after the girl got seated, however as she broke it, Jackson turned to look at the girl before shrugging. "How about you? Bad night?" He wasn't sure what else to say. It had been a while since he had used his social skills. It wasn't that he meant to be mean or short, however company was somewhat new to him. After so long of being along and silent. It was hard to form any good words.

It was almost painfully clear that the poor boy was suffering some kind of problem. He was outside at this hour in the morning, clearly he didn't want company. Chewing on her lower lip, she followed his gaze to the water, falling into a sort of trance at the slow lapping and gentle noise of the water. It was relaxing. Like her CD of whale music or the rain storm in the jungle that her Dad had given her for her last birthday.
As he shrugged, she gave one in return, her pretty face passive. Funny thing, gestures. They could tell so much. She'd asked if he'd had a rough day and his response confirmed that.
"Ah so-so," she replied, flicking her eyes back to the gentle waves. "My car broke down. Again. I ripped my dress, I walked in on my parents having sex," the blonde said, visibly grimacing as she looked a little green around the gills. "And the cherry on the top of my sundae today was being shoved into a locker." It sounded bad but she'd kind of gotten used to it. One of the football team, she didn't know his name but he was the loud one, the one who was broad and tall. He had blonde hair, a stupid grin and a limited vocabulary.
Imogen had taken it. It was so silly. High school was literally the only place in the entire world that being smart was punishable.
Absently, she wriggled her bare toes into the still warm sand, wrapping her arms around her knees as an easy silence settled over the pair of them. "I'm Imogen, by the way," she replied. Loosening the grip on her leg, she extended a pale lithe left hand out towards him to shake it he so chose. Chances are, he didn't know her and why would he? It wasn't like they ever crossed paths. Her notoriety was so low on the scale that that morning she'd been sitting on a bench, reading and someone had walked past and actually sat down on her lap before apologising and stating that they hadn't seen her there.
Surveying him in the moonlight, her eyes trailed over his facial features. He looked…sad. Had the bullies gotten to him, too? It must be one of those things. Maybe he'd taken the ill treatment worse than she had. Seemed strange though, he looked far too attractive to be made fun of.
She'd heard snippets of what happened today but she couldn't be sure it was him who was involved because after a while, all of the "Royals" kind of blended into one and were indistinguishable from one pompous Neanderthal to the next. "I wouldn't sweat it, you know," Imogen finally piped up. "In five years' time, you're going to be their boss." She joked, hinting at the fact that whatever troubles he was dealing with wouldn't be forever and the people who were causing him pain were lesser than him.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: transparent; border: #transparent solid 15px; width: 400px; padding: 10 5 10 10px;] baby you light up my world like nobody else There were ecos of birds and other creatures from the beach, filling the nights air. The waves as they rushed into shore, also made a delightful noise, which could easily entraps one mind to the point that they forget where they are or the fact that someone is sitting right nest to them. The only thing that kept Jackson reminded of the person next to him, was the sudden flow of body heat coming from that direction, along with the cool breeze that was passing between them, the way a breeze passed through the ally between two buildings, hitting a passer by on the next street. It didn't bother him all that much though. No he wasn't in the mood to talk or to have company, however he knew the girl. Not by name or because they had spoke before, but being someone who seemed to rescue those picked on, he knew she was one who was often bullied. He had seen it a few times, before he went "rouge". Jackson knew the small girl was often teased about being smart or having a brain. Jackson had never personally abused her, but he knew one of his fellow team mates had. Even now, that he was no longer a popular, he didn't save the girl. Mostly because he hadn't come across her being teased since he stopped joining in on the events, however he wasn't sure he would stop that one if he was around. She was a girl who seemed stronger than most, one who didn't let the bulling bother her, but instead grow from it. That didn't mean she deserved it any more than anyone else, but it meant she was a strong women who didn't need his help.
As the girl beside him spoke, Jackson pretty much kept quiet, only asking her about herself and not answering her own questions. It wasn't that he was avoiding them, he just wasn't the kind who liked to answer things in moods such as these. However as the women spoke, he felt bad. Her day was far worse than his was and here he was, sitting around being all mopey while she seemed to be having an okay time. She was allowing her toes to roam free in the sand, her body language and tone in her voice said she was in a few better mood than he was and why? From the sound of it she had had a pretty shitty day and should be up crying in her room some where. Then again, as he just thought, she was a strong girl, one who clearly didn't need any help from any one.
"I'm sorry to hear all of that. Although I'm also amazed your still up and standing in a normal fashion. I know if my day was that bad, Id be berried in this sand, not sitting on it." It was more of an expression, however Jackson knew it was a lie any way, he was a lot stronger than he was letting on. Many things no longer got to him. He had fallen from grace about five months ago, so nothing was really new in his land. However, it didn't make any if it any more or less fun.
As the girl introduced herself, Jackson let out a small sigh, he knew he needed to be nice and return the favor. Turning to face the girl a little, he caught sight of her hand sticking out and took it in his bigger one. Shaking it lightly, he nodded a little before speaking roughly "I'm Jackson." Letting go of her hand he turned to face the water again, never taking pause on her or facial expressions. Normally Jackson was an observant man, however he wasn't tonight. There could be thousands of people on the beach by now and he wouldn't have noticed, not until they were in his way of the view of the water.
The silence swept over the again, eating them both up as they sat there, here toes digging into the sand, his eyes digging into the sea. They both seemed to walk the same path, yet so very different. Although Jackson was taking this night to take pity on himself, it wasn't the kind of thing he didn't often. No, he had no regrets about the action he had taken or the life he was now leading because of it. He normally to pride in being the kind of man who stood up in what was right, against what everyone else believe. However, there was those few times he would take a moment and wonder what life would be like if he had left it all alone. However, this moment kept being interrupted by the small girls talking. He never showed how annoyed he was becoming, however a small piece of him wanted to shoo her away like a fly. Letting out a half chuckle, he glanced over at the girl, pausing for a moment before licking his lips and finally speaking, "So why are you talking to me? Don't you know its like the very worst thing you can do to your reputation is talking to me? I'm like the plague, I'm a major no, no. Don't you fear you will be bullied even more if people saw you sitting here with me? Granted, were not at school and its the middle of the night, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen." So many people ran from Jackson. He was no longer the popular guy and he was rejected by the rejects. Everyone was scared to be seen with him, because they were scared it would only cause more damage to their reputation, so he didn't get why this girl was putting all of that on the line, for a bunch of silence and a little bit of talk.
