If someone asked you to write down your life, what would you write? Would you write about all of it? The moments you can't remember but people have told you about, moments you think you should remember instead of the ones you do? Would you write a list with all the memories you have, giving the impression that there's no connection between them; because there isn't? Or would you write about those things that you know but don't remember and those few moments you do remember that have made you into the person you are today? I guess that's the way to go on about it isn't it? Giving a few background facts about yourself so people can get to know you, and then telling your story as you know it, with your memories, because it's your story. That's how I'm going to do it and I hope you enjoy this little tour I'll give you of my personal memory lane. Tristan Dalton's memory lane. But before that, I'll tell you about me, so you're not plunged into my story without knowing who I am.
My name is Tristan Michael Dalton, the first child to Karen and Michael Dalton. I can't remember much of that though, seeing as how my sister was born just 9 months after me. I was born September 6th and she was born on June 29, her name is Cassie... Well, I can't give you any more facts without giving away half my story so I guess I'd better start.
All through my life, I can remember Cassie right there beside me. Even though she was younger than me, we were basically considered twins even though we look nothing alike, spending every moment together even though I can say we did not like each other very much as small children; just like any other pair of siblings forced to spend their every waking moment together. Now, we're not forced to spend time together, we just do it because we want to and besides, it's not like we spend ALL DAY, EVERY DAY together... Just most days for a lot of hours. She's my best friend now, I don't know what I'd do without her and I know she feels the same way. And not just because she's blind. Oops, gave something away. Just so you know, she wasn't born blind and just the fact that if I'd looked back that day and pulled her to run with me, that I could have saved her sight, kills me. She says it doesn't bother her anymore but she cried for a week when she found out, I wish I could change that day completely... But I can't. You see, my sister lost her sight the same day we lost our dad. 9/11. He was a firefighter trying to help the people and we were on a road trip with school. Needless to say, it was the worst day of our lives. Actually, the worst week... Crap, I'm getting emotional. Must be pms-ing, sorry.
Good and bad things have come from this, Cassie and I are now very close as siblings and I know I can count on her for everything. We moved because of sad memories and I made my best friend in Cali. When we were sixteen though, Cassie and I found out my mom had been cheating on my dad for a long time, probably throughout their marriage. Our already dysfunctional family broke apart... I can't bring myself to not hate my mother anymore though, just the fact that she would cheat on my dad; who was an amazing man, makes me so angry. The worst part is, she was cheating on my dad with my best friend's dad, a guy I actually liked before finding out he was a part of this. I bet my mom was relieved when my dad died. I bet she doesn't even regret breaking apart our family. I bet she doesn't even care. I hate her, and so does Cassie... But hey, that's what you get right? Karma and all that stuff.
Well, I just wrote for you guys a very short autobiography and I hope you enjoyed it. It's harder to tell someone about you than you'd think and right now I'm just an aspiring writer. Amateurish, new. I'm still learning. I'll get there someday though, you'll see...
