i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best Each mindless step that Camden took had a story begging to be told. Cam often opted to keep those stories locked up along with all of the other secrets stored in his mind's cellar. It was better that way because it protected people from knowing the real him, as well as protecting himself from knowing people in general. It was nearly sundown and Cam had arrived to the park reluctantly at first although he knew he had nowhere else to go. Since he moved to Manchester, Cam hadn't met anyone worth his time. The people here were stuck up and too absorbed in their lavish lifestyles to bother communicating with Cam. It was far different then living in Cedar Rapids. There it was a small town where everyone knew everyone, often allowing the police to capture culprits when crimes were committed. People in Cedar Rapids couldn't keep a secret if their lives depended on it. People just did not know how to shut the fuck up. The police usually continued on their game, making crime scarce in town. Not always of course. It wasn't that he couldn't fit in to a town like this, it was the fact that he didn't want too. Cam had practically begged his mom to move. Forget the fact that it was his senior year. It was better that way. Secrets were meant to be buried, and his was going to stay in the ground at any cost.
Cam trudged over toward the park's playground and reluctantly hopped on to the play structure, only to take a seat on the wooden step. For a second he admired the scenery around him, mainly because he had never seen such a sight. It sun was a gorgeous orange and yellow haze and the clouds came across as pink and creamy, only bringing a smile to his lips. It was peaceful without all of the rambunctious kids roaming around, terrorizing everyone that crossed their paths. Cam closed his eyes for a moment to gather his thoughts as he stood up and made his way toward the rusty looking swing set. With a plop he sat down on the light blue seat and placed his hands firmly on the cold metal chains. The cold from the chains swarmed Cam's body giving him a tingling sensation like no other. It was a relaxing time. The only thing that could ruin it (and irritate him in the process) is someone approaching him.
Cam sat there mindlessly, his body rocking slowly in an almost rhythmic pattern that reminded him alot of a night he'd recently had. A night that he would much rather forget. It was a one time thing and I got away with it, its not a big deal Cam...c'mon you can do this, he thought as he pursed his lips together. Cam continued to gaze around as he swung silently on the park, his long legs occasionally hitting the wood bark that lined the parks floor, muttering "shit!" every time it happened. Yeah, Cam was extremely bored.

. breaths to stay, any other teenage girl would be overwhelmed had they suddenly been handed zoe's life. she considered herself to be a very well-rounded individual but others simply thought she was insane. the young blonde was in every school committee, club, and sports team. aside from that, after school she was busy volunteering and working part-time at the library. Zoe liked to think she could do it all. she worked her butt off in order to receive award after award for her efforts and talents. as ridiculous as it seemed for most people, she was ambitious with the intention of becoming the nation's president one day. she had it all planned out, a map with many arrows and highlighted sections and she wouldn't stop until she was at the very top.
contrary to popular opinion, the hardworking girl wasn't after sheer power. she simply wanted to make a difference in the world. the realization had come one day when she was younger, watching the news in disbelief. there were so many terrible things going on in the world and she could think of a million ways to turn them around. in her mind, she was the only one capable of creating a new environment for those around her. for zoe, perfection wasn't a dim light shining at the end of the road, it was an obligation she was glad to go after, close enough it was almost tangible.
however, she did enjoy her down time. nights like these were perfect. the summer breeze was tickling her bare skin as she walked through the park, mesmerized by the beauty in the sky. it was straight out of a monet painting, dotted with layers and layers of crisp coloring that appeared to be infinite. she brought her camera up to her crystal blue eyes and focused the lens before snapping a shot. it was her newest pastime. there was something incredibly fascinating about being able to capture a moment in time, a snippet of surroundings in hopes that it will live on forever.
she lowered the lens until her eyes met the playground. she had decided to go there because she was in love with the idea of going to a playground and being a kid again. however, as she stood in front of the brightly colored structure she realized she didn't have a clue as to what she would do there. it seemed like a waste of time and if there was anything she hated more than laziness it was wasting time. every tick of the clock was precious to her but she couldn't bring herself to walk away.
she remained standing still, taking in the sun's final rays before watching it fade into oblivion. that was when she heard it, a distinct voice break the silence, quiet but definite. "shit!" her feet led her towards the voice and she found herself standing in front of camden with a puzzled expression. "are you okay?" for some reason zoe always found herself in this position, the heroine, the one who wanted to help everyone. at first she had just done it because she had read on yale's official website that they were looking for young adults with a passion for helping those around them but after awhile it had become a habit and now she genuinely cared about people. even strangers like the boy in front of her. her lips went upwards in a small grin as she pointed to the swing beside him. "do you mind?"

i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best the overwhelming pressure to be the model student was something camden had learned to handle. he belonged as a member of many clubs, organizations and was the newly appointed captain of the basketball team. most people would kill to have the power and status that camden had, however the blonde haired boy wished he wasn't the one in control. instead he wanted to be the guy to go with the flow, just follow instead of constantly leading. he knew what would happen if he failed, his father, a retired basketball player, would never let him live down his failures. camden continued to swing silently, his head resting against the cold hard metal of the swing set, the rocking motion causing his eyes to shut momentarily. i didn't mean to do it. he thought to himself as he slowly rocked, the creaking sound of the swing providing a melodic like tone amongst the silence.
camden had enjoyed this playground as a kid, often prompted to beg his dad to take him here so he could cut loose on the rather gigantic play structure. to him, this park was reliving the innocence he had during his younger years, likely an effort of capture the nostalgia that filled his body whenever he had passed by. at age seventeen, camden had never outgrown this playground and most notably, this swing. whenever he needed time to think he would come here and swing, the cool summer breeze and warm rays of the sun seemed to wash his problems away. the darkness was quickly approaching, and camden fluttered his eyelashes open, his crystal blue eyes sparkling rather dimly in the descending light. from a distance he could make out a figure approaching from the shadows. he fixed his eyes of the shadow, watching it pre-cautiously to see if it was a friend or foe. as the figure approached, camden noticed the petite figure and the long hair swayed gently in the wind and camden let out a sigh of relief. it was zoe. "yeah," he replied, his lips quirking upward to form a smile, "i just enjoy nights like this." it was true camden loved maryland's summer nights, perhaps more then any other place in the world. it was never too hot or too cold during the summer months, and it empty park gave cam ample time to be alone. camden looked down at the swing and nodded his head. "no, not at all! sit!" he exclaimed, an excited twinkle in his eye as he motioned the girl to join him. "what are you doing here?" words 500+ tagged zoe notes im sorry this sucked |
