life
Charlotte’s parents decided Maryland would be their anchor after travelling across the states with their two sons in tow all the way from France. Charlotte Grace Devereaux was adored by her parents and brothers alike and was showered with attention and affection. Her brothers would compete to teach her new tricks and it was them who helped her learn how to speak both in English and their parent’s first language, French. Growing up with two brothers, Charlotte took a liking to “boy” things. The dolls and ponies her parents bought her that although were pretty just weren’t as fun as the army men and trucks. It was her brother’s toy truck that led to her meeting her two best friends, Matt and Oliver. Her two neighbors had been watching her play with it for a few weeks, it wasn’t until the cockier one of the two approached her and said something along the lines of, “Shouldn’t you be inside playing princesses or something?”, with a quick kick to the groin, the three became inseparable.
The three did everything together, riding bikes, building forts, Charlotte of course liked to lead the way. The three swapped from house to house for dinner with each of their parents accepting the fact they now had an extra son and daughter. It wasn’t until they grew older and puberty hit them that things got weird. Charlotte felt the connection she once had with them lose it’s grip, they still hung out with her but the look in their eye was different. She sought other company, female company. Befriending some of the rich girls in the street when high school came and the boys became jocks she wasn’t exiled from them, sitting with the Preps she had befriended. It was those Preps that encouraged her to misbehave, they showed her that she didn’t have to be the nice girl everyone expected to be, they had seen bits and pieces of her wild side and they wanted to unleash it.
She tried to drag Oliver and Matt along with her for the ride but only Matt came willingly. She coaxed him into the ride of parties and alcohol and sex but then things got complicated. He said the “L” word and she went back to her Preppy friends. Her brothers were hardly ever home and she soon got lonely, her partying behavior got more intense and her parents were hardly ever home, always on business trips. And then everything came crashing down along with their plane and she was forced to grow up and face reality and the cruel harshness of the world. Her brothers took custody of her and everyone was shoving fake sympathy in her face and she detested that, she detested them. She knew Matt and Oliver were the only ones who could make her happy but they were offering their sympathies too and she couldn’t deal with it. Her brothers took custody of her, moving in with the closest of her brothers she found it easy enough to continue her partying ways. People frowned at her for moving on so quickly but she now knew how it was and who she was and if they couldn’t accept that, that was their problem.
Feeling left out and alone, Charlie fled to France at the end of Junior year somehow managing to coax Oliver into it. She got right into the nightlife and made friends that Oliver was less than happy to spend time with. He was missing Lo and everything back at Maryland so he headed home early and left Charlie to live it up by herself. She's back now and bitter that she's back to being ignored by the people she considers family and bored by everyone else. She's hoping that Senior year will change things for the better and make her friends realize how much they need each other as much as she thinks they do.
roleplaying sample
Charlie had been nice to the girl, as nice as she could be and now she was being pushy and stepping toward and trying to intimidate her. Charlie looked down at the petite girl now fuming at her and she couldn't help but let out a giggle. She looked ridiculous. She sounded ridiculous. Charlie felt a rush of power, she knew what she had to do to get the ball in her court. She knew how to make Lo squirm and how to crush her. She knew exactly what to say and how to say it. A slight smirk creeping on her lips.
”You know what, I don’t have to take this from you! I spend tons of time with my boyfriend, and your insinuation that I am not being the best girlfriend—coming from YOU—especially, is really insulting!”
She smiled, what she had said was meant to offend, the truth hurt and the fact of the matter was that Lo needed to wake up and stop being a tease with one of her best friends while she was dating the other. That job description was clearly meant for one and she had applied and got the job long ago, she didn't need some snarky, cutesy wannabe on her back and she was trying to make the situation the best it could possibly be. Well, the best possible situation for herself at least.
”I’m sorry you feel threatened by me. I really do. But you need to get over it and stop obsessive over what I am and am not doing. I’m being the best girlfriend I can and it’s none of your business.”
Charlie took a step forward, almost nudging the girl, she hovered close enough to show her that she didn't like to be pushed. Her face was filled with the fakest of expressions, wide eyes and a smile most plastic. She felt herself begin to giggle again but she repressed it, she had had enough of this.
"You must be having difficulty understanding things because I have to keep repeating myself and I'm sure I don't have a stutter. It is completely my business. They are my best friends. What you do with them affects us all, Lo."
This situation was never going to end pretty. Matt and Charlie alone were complicated enough with Oliver it was completely platonic but sometimes there was something there. Lo thrown into the mix made it catastrophic and although it was exciting, Charlie loved to be center of attention and this time, she was far from it.
"I try and help you out, I tell you how it is, what you need to do to avoid me ripping your head off every single time I hear your annoying voice but you just...aren't....listening. I am completely over this, I thought we could really talk this through, Lo. I thought we actually understood each other for a moment."
She picked up the jacket she had tossed aside and slung it over one of her slender arms, flicking her hair with her free hand and strutting away to the counter. She didn't really want this to end but if it was going to, Charlie wanted the last word. She wanted to be in control of the situation.
"I guess I was wrong."
She whispered over her shoulder, letting a sliver of sadness creep into her voice , and blinking longingly at Lo through her long, dark eyelashes. If she did let her escape Charlie would be pleased with an exit that dramatic and sexy.
