Melanie was born into a decently wealthy family that was always somewhat dysfunctional. Her father had always been a drinker but by the time she was seven years old he was pretty much an alcoholic. Her sister was two years older than her and she was always the louder and more outgoing one of the two. She was very opinionated about their father's choices while Melanie was more quiet and would help clean up after her father. When the two girls were in high school their mother had just about had enough and she packed the three of them up and moved out. Melanie was very upset and she managed to keep contact with her father. The shock of losing his family was the push he needed to clean himself up and get himself some help. By the time Melanie graduated, the family was back together again.

Her sister never truly forgave her father and she resented her mother for taking him back. She went out on her own and decided to do her own thing. Mean while, Melanie met Mason Gray, a soldier in the U.S army. She was barely twenty years old when they married and he was three years older. A year later, the two brought a little boy into the world and they named him Parker. Mason went over seas multiple times but he always managed to come home safely to his wife and young son. Nearly six months ago, Melanie received some devastating news, Mason had been killed in battle. It nearly tore he life apart but she managed to hold on for her son. She had been living about an hour away but recently decided to move back to her home town. Her parents as well as her sister and her family are all here to support her on her recovery. She also just took a job at Manchester Prep and she will be teaching English as well as social sciences.
